Wharf history[edit]

The history of the Santa Cruz Wharves was recently (2012) updated due to numerous errors that had crept into their stories. The chief of which was the history of the Gharky Wharf, also known as the Powder Works Wharf. Please see the essay Notes on Santa Cruz Wharves by Frank Perry and Robert Piwarzyk. They both wrote the history of the Santa Cruz lime industry in Lime Kiln Legacies which included many necessary references to the wharves. The quote on the main page regarding the demolition of the wharf in 1904 has been removed. The construction of the Neptune Casino has absolutely nothing to do with the demolition of the Powder Works Wharf in 1882. No wharf was demolished to build the Casino.
