Semiconductor refining[edit]

Presently the article contains the following in the lead:

On the other hand, we have zone melting which was developed by William Gardner Pfann. Did Calvin Fuller begin the zone melting process or some earlier refining process? If no reference is produced, the assertion will be removed.Rgdboer (talk) 22:57, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Much of the article has been rewritten using references to Millman (1983). There details of the synthetic rubber project are given as well as material on polymers. As for the previous comments on silicon and its refining, since Fuller was in the chemistry department with Pfann the method is mentioned in the lede.
