Zoom?

Who's task would it usually be to operate the zoom during a zoom shot? If someone could add that info at the apropriate position, that would be great! Tony Mach (talk) 16:41, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

Do we really need 4 pictures?

I think one would do just fine. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:44, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

I think all are relevant to the subject. JAIBHIM5 (talk) 06:38, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
You misunderstand my question. There are many acceptable free images that are individually relevant to the subject. The question is, do we really need 4? I believe that 1 is sufficient and 4 (or rather, the 4 that are there) is actually worse for the article than only 1 of them. I'm asking you and others to give your input on the appropriate quantity of images for this relatively short article. Please read Wikipedia:Image dos and don'ts and Wikipedia:Image use policy#Image galleries. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:27, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
User Jaibhim is using images that do not qualify under WP:NOTADVERTISING, WP:UNDUE, WP:NPOV WP:CONFLICT OF INTEREST as he himself is affiliated with the community that organises the namvistar ceremony. Nickelroy (talk) 00:01, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Restating question: Do we really need more than 1 picture, and if so, why? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 00:10, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

@Nickelroy: This day is celebrated in other educational institutes other than Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University as well. This day is related with educational institutes. In India people of all community study in colleges.
@ davidwr which picture you think is relevant and why? which picture is irreverent and why? JAIBHIM5 (talk) 19:55, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Even if any one of them would be a good addition to the article if the article had no pictures (which is the essence of the "relevancy" question that you ask), it doesn't follow that more is better. I'm asking if we need more than one. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:34, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

@ davidwr: no, we don't need 4 pictures, the picture "Ten News camera operator" seems sufficient. JimRenge (talk) 18:22, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Ten News camera operator is clear advertising. No for Ten news. JAIBHIM5 (talk) 10:10, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
@ JAIBHIM5: I am glad that you oppose the use of images that might be interpreted as WP:PROMOTION. I have changed the caption of the picture "Ten News camera operator" to "camera operator" and I think there is nothing left in this picture/caption which might be seen as advertisement. Could you please answer davidwr`s question: Do we really need more than 1 picture, and if so, why? JimRenge (talk) 10:48, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
@Nickelroy: Do we really need more than one picture, and if your answer is no, which one do you prefer? JimRenge (talk) 18:11, 11 May 2014 (UTC)
@JimRenge On zooming image I can see symbol of "Ten News camera operator". No for Ten news image. JAIBHIM5 (talk) 13:42, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Zooming the image, I can see a sticker with the text "ten". I don`t think that the readers of this article will zoom into this image and associate the word "ten" with Ten News. I also don`t think that this image is advertisement. JimRenge (talk) 18:26, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
"I don`t think that the readers of this article will zoom into this image and associate the word "ten" with Ten News." How do you know that? They can do it. No for Ten news image. JAIBHIM5 (talk) 06:47, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Do we really need 2 pictures?

I have removed the two images identified as overly promotional in the discussion above.

While I have no problem with either of the remaining pictures individually, I would probably favor only 1 image being in this article rather than two images due to the small size of the article. Comments? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:28, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

I agree, one image should be sufficient. I have removed one of the 2 remaining images. JimRenge (talk) 08:20, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
And I have put it back, as part of a series of edits correcting inadequately explained removals of images by Davidwr, who seems hostile to images in general, sometimes leaving articles with none at all. Johnbod (talk) 13:16, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
I admit, I am against excessive use of images when the additional images don't seem to serve any purpose not already served by the existing images. I will also admit that what I consider "excessive use" another editor may consider well within reason. Likewise, there are probably editors out there who would consider numbers-of-images that I would consider as "reasonable" to be "excessive." This is what talk pages are for.
@Johnbod:, there is something else at play here as well: Some of the images I have removed from articles in the last few weeks were uploaded by the same editor. If you look at that editor's overall history of uploading images and using them on the English Wikipedia, you will see a pattern of using images that surround a theme that he wishes to promote, even on pages that have no direct relation to that theme. In other words, he's taking images "about X" that happen "to be examples of Y and Z" and putting them on the pages for Y and Z "as examples of Y and Z" even where there are already other images that serve to demonstrate Y and Z as well or better than the ones that he has added. It is likely that lately I have been slightly more aggressive in removing images than normal as a direct result of working to clean up the inappropriate use of images by this editor. Thankfully, Wikipedia isn't done by "just me" and when and editor other than the one in question (e.g. you) calls me out on this, it reminds me that my edits in one area (such as cleaning up after a particular editor) can negatively affect my judgment in other areas (such as making me slightly more aggressive than usual in removing pictures). Thanks for helping me see what may be a blind spot in my editorial judgment. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 21:11, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
No problem; I had noticed and of course approved your efforts there (though I didn't do so at once, which partly accounts for my testy tone), and eg while I gave Homage (arts) a picture back, it was not the one you had removed. I don't think I have put any of those back. Johnbod (talk) 21:49, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
