Are they still around?[edit]

Fascinating article. I'd appreciate it if the article gave some idea of how many of them there were at the movement's peak in the 1940's (hundreds? hundreds of thousands?) and if there are any more left in Israel today. Was this a splinter group with a compelling story, or a mainstream movement with lots of adherents? -- technopilgrim 20:24, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know Cain and Able from the Bible, Cain killed Able and married and form his own family, is there any connection between this Cain and the Canaanites of the post-Deluge?

  • None, I believe. If I remember my history correctly, the Canaanites were decended from Canaan, the son of Ham. As far as known records go, all of Cain's descendants were destroyed in the Flood/Deluge/What-have-you. --216.8.167.39 (talk) 18:46, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Given the spelling difference קין and כנען, why would anyone assume a connection? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.148.217.45 (talk) 14:51, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why I moved this to Canaanism[edit]

The Canaanites were an ancient people and it is confusing that this page, which is about an important, if small, intellectual movement, should share the same page name with the Canaanite people. Instead, as in Communism the main page should be under Canaanism and this page should re-direct to it. A google search of Canaanism, before I made the redirect, produced nothing and there was no possible way to ever get from a public search to the Wikipedia page, meaning anyone interested in this topic could never find there way here. My hope is that now someone who searches 'Canaanism' will find the page. In the past a search for "Canaanites", of course, brought people to he page for the people, not the movement. With the recent death of Amos Kenan it is important that people can find there way to the page Seth J. Frantzman (talk) 11:33, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why I moved this here from 'Canaanites (movement)'[edit]

In the past anyone interested in what the Canaanite movement was found it impossible to get to the Wikipedia entry. Typing "canaanism" in google did not produce a link to the page. If one types 'Canaanites', they get to links to the Canaanite peopel, not the modern movement. I moved it here so that, like Communism, the movement, the -ism, is the main page. Canaanite (movement), now redirects here. For whoever created that page, a great thanks, but it should have been made under this heading, and I think I have remedied the problem so that anyone interested in this important movement can find out about it.
