Nice Article[edit]

Nice article! I started the Voyageurs article (from a re-direct, I plan to rename) a few weeks ago. It has a shorter "routes" section and I'll link to this article for more in-depth route info. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 16:53, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The article is still incomplete in many places. I have the Eric Morse and Arthur Silver Morton books in the mail. If anyone has better information, please fill in the article or leave a note here as to what books to read Benjamin Trovato (talk) 01:11, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have the Eric Morse book. It's really good. But so are the sources you've been using. The Morse book, by it's focus, might be useful to reinforce which routes were primarily canoe vs. other forms of transportation. For my work on the Voyageurs article it was doubly good because it further focused on Voyageur vs. other canoe travel. Nice work! North8000 (talk) 01:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name?[edit]

There is no Wikipedia article named Canadian canoe routes, so why is the designation "(early)" required? 96.46.206.134 (talk) 00:46, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just a visitor here, but IMHO just "Canadian canoe routes" would be an immense list with no focus. Sincerely, North8000 (talk) 01:02, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, how about "Early Canadian canoe routes"? 96.46.206.134 (talk) 01:20, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I worried about the title too but couldn't think of a better one. Canadian canoe routes sounds like modern sport canoeing. Putting Canadian in front puts the main idea first and makes it easier to find. I just thought of Historical Canadian canoe routes but that sounds odd too. Historical canoe routes in Canada is better grammar. There really isn't a good title. The thing is almost a history of Canada, of Canadian exploration and of the Canadian fur trade but I wanted to show how these were shaped by the problem of getting from place to place as in the corresponding Siberia article. And what an immensely good job you have done at it! North8000 (talk) 00:41, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How did rename happen?[edit]

There was no discussion, particularly with the main editor, Benjamin Trovato. And to a name with discussed issues. This should probably get reversed. North8000 (talk) 00:46, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't do anything because the change was not clearly wrong. Neutrality came out of nowhere, gave no reason and probably did not look at the talk page. I usually let people change my stuff unless they are obviously wrong.Benjamin Trovato (talk) 01:38, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support and help (including changing it back) with whatever your thoughts are on this. North8000 (talk) 10:53, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Siberia restored[edit]

Someone edited out the original reference to Siberia, apparently because it did not directly apply to Canada. The underlying theme of this article is how, in this case, geography influenced history. Comparison to Siberia is needed to show how similar geography did and did not produce similar results and also set up the problems faced by travelers in this type of country. This article was originally made as a companion to Siberian river routes. Benjamin Trovato (talk) 01:51, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
