Specific athletes connected with cannabis[edit]

There are lots, especially athletes that have now entered the cannabis industry which will be a separate section that is added to the article. I'm thinking for that, it wouldn't really work in a paragraph form; it would have to be more like a list. But maybe a list with a one or two sentence summary of their involvement in the industry for each name. So many athletes are entering the industry though, I think it would start to overshadow the other stuff in the sections such as league policy and other information. Sure, the important thing is to create the content and we can organize later. I'd prefer to keep related content grouped, so you'll see I've already added mention of Carmelo Anthony, John Wall, and Sue Bird to the basketball section, Megan Rapinoe to the association football section, etc. I don't think text about athlete entrepreneurs will outweigh committee regulations, etc. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:51, 8 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I added some names of NBA and NFL players but didn't go into detail regarding any of them, perhaps others may care to. It's not sourced either but perhaps OK for now considering it is covered on each player's page. Still wondering if the material would be better as a separate list but not really that worried about it... going to take a break from working on the article for a while and not sure if I'll be adding much else in the near future. Where does "swimming" fit in?[edit]

Organization of article[edit]

Regarding the paragraph about WADA that was moved to the lead section, I think the 2013 reform is definitely something that is worthy of mentioning in the lead, but the way I wrote the paragraph was not specifically for the lead section and there are details in it that I don't really think fit well there. I do agree that the WADA information is important though and should be more visible than at the bottom of the article where I originally put it, and that it makes sense to explain WADA before it is further mentioned in the article. Here's what I'm thinking should be done instead:

  • Make a section "World Anti-Doping Agency" as the first section in the article, containing the information I originally wrote but expanded in regards to its founding and maybe some information about the increased calls for reform in 2021.
  • Move the "College and youth sports" section so that it is the second section in the article.
  • Have a third section "Individual sports", and then list all the individual sports below it as subsections. To prevent having fifth-level sections, which are not ideal to deal with, I would eliminate the headings such as "Bat-and-ball games", "Football", "Roller sports and skating", etc. which I don't really think are necessary.

Sound like a decent idea? I think it will also help with issues that will arise in the future when new sections are added (not pertaining to individual sports) or information is added such as that pertaining to WADA.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 22:47, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I was thinking keep it strictly alphabetical instead of trying to maintain any type of grouping with related sports kept near each other. One other way to order is by size – which I have done on some wikipedia pages – but strictly alphabetical sounds good to me.
Alternatively, the headings like "Bat-and-ball games" could perhaps be kept, but maybe we could find a way to not use fifth-level sections such as by getting rid of "Boxing, martial arts, and mixed martial arts" which is a subsection of "Combat sport". We can figure that out later I guess, but the main thing is that I think the individual sports should go under an "Individual sports" section.

Yeah the WikiProject kicked butt on this one; that was cool how Bri floated the idea and it just came together after that. I'm working on something to add to the article regarding Ross Rebagliati right now, who actually was briefly jailed in Japan after being stripped of his gold medal temporarily at the 1998 Olympics. The quote from Julie Masse in the article says that WADA chose the number because they believed it would determine who was intoxicated at the time of competition. As to whether there is any scientific research behind the number or they just kind of randomly chose it... I do not know... haven't come across any such information yet. As noted in the article, UFC doesn't seem to think there is any number that reliably determines intoxication.
