movers and shakers[edit]

I am trying to get this going and shall be in touch immediately with some of the main movers and shakers in this movement to see if thay can pitch in and do something with this. ericbritton 10:27, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good start[edit]

Good start, Eric. I might point out that the title is about cities, but the article seems directed at the movement. I would propose we also point out;

  • Characteristics of carfree cities (existing or envisioned)
  • Effects of such characteristics on traffic, pollution, stress, noise, vehicular accidents, commuting times, etc,
  • Examples of current carfree (or nearly so) cities/districts.

examples[edit]

I agree with most of that Skyemoor, though the link to examples of carfree districts and cities pretty much covers that one point. I can email J.H. Crawford and attempt to get the authorization to use some of his diagrams from the book, which I feel would greatly benefit this article. Agentplant 21:58, 13 November 2007 (PST)

Graphics from Carfree Cities[edit]

The drawings at Carfree.com are actually more suitable for this article than the (somewhat later) vector-graphics files, which are extremely large files. I grant permission to reproduce any graphic on Carfree.com that I own in Wikipedia. (There are graphics on the site that are reproduced by permission, and these are, of course, not covered by this blanket grant. These images always carry a nearby copyright notice.) Sorry, didn't mean for this to carry a large, boldface title. Can someone fix? --Carfreecrawford (talk) 16:20, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Referencing may look daunting, but it's easy enough to do. Here's a guide to getting started. References are important to validate your writing and inform the reader. Any editor can remove unreferenced material, and unsubstantiated articles may end up getting deleted, so when you add something to an article, it's advisable to also include a reference to say from where it came. If you need any assistance, let me know. (Heroeswithmetaphors) talk 01:48, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

In order to improve this article, perhaps the title might be changed to read "Theoretical Car-free (anti-car) Cities". A reason for this might be because apparently there are no real ones (see list - of none). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.183.224.2 (talk) 20:38, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Effects, History, Examples[edit]

I've added a new section to outline some of the advantages and disadvantages, as well as some other content to help flesh out the history and example sections. This article may be superfluous though, could be merged with another article like "walkability" or "Pedestrian Zone". Will probably also require more citations, am concerned with objectivity too. --Cupio Dissolvi (talk) 03:38, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Objectivity concerns[edit]

Much of this article reads like a persuasive essay trying to convince someone of the validity/goodness of car-free cities, rather than actual sourced information about car-free cities. Sourcing isn't great in general. A lot of this should be removed or replaced with more balanced text. 2600:4041:4B0:A100:C500:F3D6:7B18:F4D9 (talk) 03:32, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
