Carlos González (footballer, born 1989) → Carlos Gonzales – As highlighted by @Lennart97:, the last name of this footballer is just "Gonzales", and not the more common variant "González". As far as I can see, he is the only person with this name combination, and it seems different enough that this is where his page should land. Another option is Carlos Gonzales (footballer, born 1989) if more disambiguation is required. Support as proposed, no need to disambiguate when it is spelt differently. Hatnotes to/from disambig pages will suffice. GiantSnowman 10:58, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Comment it is unclear whether Carlos Gonzales or Carlos Gonzáles should be the new name. The RM proposal uses both, as do sources (Soccerway uses the accent, National-Football-Teams does not, and the Futbol Peruano reference doesn't appear to mention this person at all). As a result I must re-list this discussion. @Ortizesp and GiantSnowman: to clarify. User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 00:13, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support it without the accent, so Carlos Gonzales. I think when in doubt, go without is the norm.--Ortizesp (talk) 17:04, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Support (no diacritic). The equivalent Spanish article, es:Jairsinho Gonzales, doesn't have one; and this Spanish-language link (top four entries) doesn't either. I'd expect both those to get the spelling right, WP:RS or not. Further, es:Carlos Gonzales Pajuelo, an older Peruvian footballer, also doesn't have one; and González (surname) gives Gonzales (wihout diacritic) as a related name. RetargetCarlos Gonzáles to the retitled article (we only have one article with terminal -s). Cross-refer Carlos Gonzales and DAB page Carlos González by hatnote/see-also.
