Errors[edit]

Jason Scott from Textfiles.com says that there are a number of errors on this page. Does anybody have source material to correct this article? Vagabond997 01:39, 14 April 2006 (UTC) Source: [1][reply]

"The Wikipedia article was typed in by a retiree from Iowa, off of the New York Times obituary from Carmine DeSapio's death, which happens to be locked down under registration so it doesn't get out as much. He transcribed it wrong! In doing so he got the name of his daughter wrong, he got his age wrong, he got a number of other important facts wrong, all of which are duplicated now throughout the web." I've found what claims to be a copy on the web [3]. So it appears the first time the original creator of the Wikipedia article named the daughter, he accidentally used the name of the wife (however, the correct name was given at the end), but I'm blowed if I can work out where Mr Scott is saying "he got the age wrong", unless Mr Scott just plugged 2004-1908 into a calculator, got 96 and thought "Hey, all the articles say he died at 95!". So, the Great Failure of Jason Scott then? Oh, and just to point out - if you go to [4], you see the NY Times had to make corrections to their obituary as well. DeSapio was our neighbor at 11 Fifth Avenue, a large apartment house between 8th & 9th Street, a block north of Washington Square. It was hardly "middle-class" in the sense the article implies. There was a wide circular driveway, a doorman, elevator men, and in the lobby a concierge desk. It was considered, in its day, to be quite luxurious.Ellen Dana Nagler 23:48, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
