Comment[edit]

how do you change the title of the overall page (or at least set up a redirect to another page)? I can't work it out. This whole page has an incorrect name - it should be the Carnival Against Capital, as it was called at the time!! Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.96.226.6 (talk) 23:13, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tear gas?[edit]

The rest of the afternoon became a battle as police using tear gas and horses pushed the protestors down Lower Thames Street and out of the City of London. In the aftermath, protestors gathered peacefully in Trafalgar Square

Could it be clarified what is meant by "tear gas"? The phrase conjures images of gas-grenade launchers as seen in Seattle etc., but AFAIK this isn't used in the UK, although CS spray and similar weapons are. --Black Butterfly 15:19, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What i meant was CS gas, squirted by police from little green bottles they have strapped on their belts. Cs gas says 'In common parlance CS is referred to as 'CS gas' or 'Tear gas', but im happy to change it to 'Personal incapacitant spray containing CS gas' ... you are right to say that "gas-grenade launchers" are not normally used at protests in the uk, but note that "the CS spray used by UK police has 5 times as much CS as the spray used by American police forces (5% dissolved CS and 1% CS respectively)". a quote which could be added somewhere[edit]

J18 was "far more political and confrontational" than previous protests which RTS had been involved with, stated on page 150 of Mosey, Chris Car Wars - Battles on the Road to Nowhere London: Vision Paperbacks, 2000. ISBN 1-901250-40-7 Mujinga 19:04, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mark Brown Vestey[edit]

Paki.tv has created an article on Mark Brown Vestey, which is short and contains no particularly useful information. Vestey does not seem to be notable enough to warrant an entire wikipedia article and so I would propose (a) that the second article be removed, and (b) that any content from it that can be backed up, be included here if appropriate. --Black Butterfly 11:52, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with a). Don't think Mark Brown Vestey warrants inclusion in this article unless verified using a valid source. NickW 12:51, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK the legal situation around him - ie that he was arrested and charged with organising the event - is factually accurate and therefore is relevant to this article. Other information is largely irrelevant however (with the possible exception of his being heir to the Vestey business, for no reason other than that it's an interesting bit of trivia). --Black Butterfly 13:00, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
... i've added sources and links to vestey's page - his notability is in his upper-class philanthropy Paki.tv 22:32, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
