Romanization doubt[edit]

长治县 is romanized Changzhi, but 长子县 is romanized Zhangzi. The first character is 长 on both cases. Why is it romanized differently?

The character "长" has two pronunciations "Zhǎng" and "Cháng". The city itself is called Chángzhì, and 长治县 "Changzhi County" is a "附郭县" ("city-affiliated county" in literal) named after the city, a common administrative way in many historical cities. 长子县 "Zhǎngzǐ" is named after a myth that the legendary Emperor Yao gave this fief to his eldest son Dan Zhu, and the Chinese for "Eldest son" is "Zhǎngzǐ". The name remained the same since the age of myth to this day.--Flying mogui (talk) 08:20, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
