Horrible mistake![edit]

'The Battle of Algiers' links to this film which is about the 20th century war of independence.

Here's another one-it says he's an Englishman born in England.

More Horrible Mistakes![edit]

I am a Hong Kong Wikipedian who has just finished the Chinese version of Charles Elliot article. And I find some mistakes in the English one.

  • Charles Elliott should be a person from New Zealand. It should not be confused.
  • He was appointed Chiief Superintendent of Trade in Dec 1836, not 1835.
  • It is unbelieveable that he served in both East and West India in his early years. If he did, he would had already serviced around the world.
  • He was not made an Admiral in his early years. When he became Superintendent of Trade, he was a Captain instead.
  • This article should state that Elliott personally opposed Opium trade
  • Did Charles Elliot really discover an island in 1856? If we input the latitude and longtitude in Google Map, the island that Elliot "discovered" will be somewhere on the North America Continent instead. When I used Yahoo map for a second try, the lat and long were still incorrect.

Therefore, I believe this Article needed to be cleaned up.--Clithering 08:40, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lin[edit]

Regarding Lin's dismissal, the cited ref, which is a primary source from Elliot, refers to Qishan as "imperial commissioner". In Lin's diary entry of 20 October 1840, he says he handed over the governorship. There's also several secondary sources that say 1840. Where's the evidence Lin was fired in 1841?
