Speedy delete[edit]

Marowitz and Brook[edit]
Marowitz compiled a "Lear Log" while serving as assistant director on Peter Brook's 1962 production of "King Lear" at the royal Shakespeare theatre. This log is "salient excerpts which reflect the problems and curiosities which emerged during the rehearsal period. (212.169.1.198 08:27, 28 June 2007 (UTC))
"Best known"?[edit]
That statement was inaccurate. I deleted the ref. to "best known"; Marowitz is perhaps best known as a critic. He is also known as a director. He is not "best known" for being the playwright of that play. This stub needs dev. Marowitz's year of birth[edit]
I have checked periodically over the last couple of days to find a reliable source which conclusively demonstrates that Charles Marowitz was born in 1932, rather than 1934. The reliable sources are continuing to maintain that he was born in 1934. Sometimes it does occur that an individual's correct age emerges when they die, thiss happened when dramatist Shelagh Delaney died a couple of years ago, but there is still nothing to suggest that this is the case with Marowitz. For this reason, I will reverse the claim that Marowitz was born in 1932. Philip Cross (talk) 18:39, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Philip: The birth date was originally changed to 1932 on May 6th by 'Winomar' and I reverted the date to 1934 soon after. The next day 'Winomar' again changed the date to 1932 with the following comment:
- 15:59, 7 May 2014 Winomar (talk | contribs) m . . (3,658 bytes) (0) . . (I am Charles's wife and know that he was born in 1932 and not 1934 - I have his birth certificate.)
- Marowitz's widow's name is Jane Windsor-Marowitz. Since that closely matched the user name - and seemed as a result to be too elaborate for a vandal's ruse - I figured the 1932 was correct; plus newspapers don't always get the facts right. Oh, well ... am just explaining what happened and I guess we will see if 'Winomar' returns. Thanks, Philip! Xenxax (talk) 12:41, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

- So sorry - I edited the date without consulting the talk page first. In any case, the New York Times obituary is very convincing. "Although many sources say Mr. Marowitz was born in 1934, he was born in Manhattan on Jan. 26, 1932, according to his birth certificate. He grew up on the Lower East Side, where he attended Seward Park High School. His parents, Yudel Marowitz, who was known as Harry, and the former Tillie Rosenkrantz, were Jewish immigrants from Poland who worked in the garment industry." This is corroborated by the user who identifies herself as his widow, so fair to assume it is the more reliable of the conflicting sources here.
