14 is not one of Charli XCX's studio albums... or is it?[edit]

To me it seemed rather clear that an album that cannot be found to have been available for sale at any retail or non-retail outlet at any point in time does not count as one of her studio albums, but apparently this is a controversial issue, with at least one member consistently reverting others' edits asserting (correctly, IMO) that the album wasn't released.

The idea that it was indeed released but only available for sale to the people who showed up to her 'warehouse shows' is nice and all, but it's not one that I can see verified by any sources at all, not to mention reliable sources suitable for Wikipedia. (That claimed fact has a citation on Charli's main page, but it can't be found in the article or interview at the link in the citation.) Even trawling through the Wayback Machine archive of Charli's site and MySpace page I can't find any indication that the album actually became available to be bought, even though release dates for her old singles at the time (and little banners telling people to buy them) can be found on those pages. This isn't a case like Kacey Musgraves's old albums, which were exceedingly rare due to having been made for a limited regional audience, but were nonetheless verifiably available for purchase at one time; in this case, there is no indication that this album actually came out at all.

Whether it 'can be downloaded' is also irrelevant because virtually all music that has ever been recorded can be downloaded (through piracy or otherwise), including from many other unreleased or cancelled albums (that have been correctly listed as such on Wikipedia). If it were available for SALE as a download from an online music store, things would be a different story. But as far as I am aware, that is not the case, and those who want to hear this album basically have to obtain free downloads that were ripped from one of the exceedingly small number of presumably-promo copies that were pressed. That it was recorded in a studio is also not in contention; again, other unreleased and cancelled albums that have been listed on Wikipedia were also recorded in studios, yet listed separately due to not having been released.

As another editor notes, Charli XCX considers True Romance, not 14, her first album release, which, while not foolproof confirmation, at least lends some support to the idea that 14 did not get a release.

I do see your point about 14 not being commercially released, and now agree that we shouldn't really class it in line with her other albums. At one point the article was positioned to have True Romance and Sucker as Studio Albums, and 14 as an Unreleased Album, we could compromise and revert it back to that?
