I like my cheese hot!

This article is out of date. Kaufman's latest script may be A Scanner Darkly based on a story by Philip K Dick. A film seems to be currently in production, but based on a different screenplay not by Kaufman. — 203.222.154.2 04:26, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The film A Scanner Darkly is in post-production, written and directed by Richard Linklater from Dick's story. Kaufman's first draft of the script in 1997, but it's unknown if he revised it or wrote any others.

Kaufman's screenplay for A Scanner Darkly was written for another studio. When the project changed hands, Kaufman's screenplay could no longer be used because someone else owned the rights to it. (Ibaranoff24 19:00, 27 June 2006 (UTC))

A horror film written by Kaufman and directed by Spike Jonze is in the early stages -- the plot is being kept under wraps.

Suicide?

Someone who knows better than I do should clarify this sentence: "In the world of the play, it was the last thing Charlie Kaufman wrote before he committed suicide." He is listed as a living person and IMDB also lists him as alive. I haven't done any research beyond that, but the sentence is extremely misleading. Was Charlie a character in the plan, similar to the deal with Adaptation? --Rocketgoat 21:30, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

This is misleading - Charlie Kaufman is not dead. This is a reference to the plot of Hope Leaves the Theatre. In the world of the play, its writer (a self reference to Kaufman) commits suicide. [1] --23:12, 7 March 2006 (UTC)Ed

Shivers

Shivers up whose spine? Was it Emily Dickinson or A.E. Houseman? Google seems to point to Mr H.

Quotes

I'm not a fan of this section (I haven't seen it on any other film pages), but I'm hesitant to remove it for some reason. Any thoughts? Robixsmash 22:11, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree with you. Having quotes makes this article seem unprofessional, and I also haven't noticed quotes sections on other Wikipedia articles of this sort. Will someone please point out the significance of this section? SweetNightmares (talk) 04:15, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Middle name spelling, and Birth Date

Kaufman's middle name -- Stuart -- is spelled correctly in the body of his bio, but incorrectly over in the box on the right-hand side (Stewart). Also, his birth date -- November '58 -- is correct in the body of the Bio, but not in the right-hand box (September '58). I have no idea how to edit the offending little box...

--Dave T.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.158.58.171 (talkcontribs) 14:51 6 July 2007 (UTC)

I fixed the middlename in the infobox and I changed his birthdate to November 1, 1958 throughout the article, but I'm still unsure of the proper birthdate.
IMDB lists his birthdate as September 20, 1958
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0442109/
These sites list his birthdate as November 1958
http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=2:271315~T0
http://www.beingcharliekaufman.com/bio.htm
These sites list his birthdate as November 1, 1958
http://www.usask.ca/relst/jrpc/art13-adaptation.html
http://www.matchflick.com/people/9976
So I've gone with November 1, 1958 for now --Pixelface 00:22, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Adaptation-cage.jpg

Image:Adaptation-cage.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Personal Life details

Charlie Kaufman only has one child. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0442109/bio - it incorrectly states twice on the imdb page that he has 2 children, and then at the end in the trivia section it correctly states that he has one. He has one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.47.129.172 (talk) 04:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Donald Kaufman article

I agree with the suggestion that the article about Donald Kaufman be merged into this article. SweetNightmares (talk) 04:51, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't. I would understand if it were merged, but I disapprove of doing so. Being nominated for a real-life Oscar and Golden Globe- hell, winning a BAFTA and a Satellite Award, among others- demonstrates real-world notability. Yes, it was a fictitious person associated with only one film, but in such an extraordinary circumstance, I think he's more than worthy of an article. -- Mike (Kicking222) 13:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Mike. The awards and nominations validated the character in real life; hence a separate article. Which should be expanded, if possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tiagon (talkcontribs) 23:05, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't agree with merging Donald Kaufman's page with Charlie's either. If anything, the Donald Kaufman should be merged with Adaptation., this fictional piece that he where he is featured, than with his real live counterpart Charlie. -- User:flowerkiller1692 User talk: flowerkiller1692 13:28, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Donald Kaufman redirect isn't very accurate

There is no mention of Donald Kaufman anywhere in this article...if anything, a more appropriate place to redirect would be to the character's information in the Adaptation (film) article. -- TRTX T / C 22:46, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Kaufman Interviews

"He rarely speaks about himself, and rarely makes televised interview appearances, but he was interviewed on the Colbert Report on December 9, 2008.[13], and also by Mark Kermode for The Culture Show on BBC2 on 24 March 2009.[14]"

He was interviewed by ThinkTalk before any of those. The problem is that the air date is not provided by their website. What are the chances of getting that info into the article? http://www.thinktalk.com/show/charlie_kaufman 69.140.147.133 (talk) 17:42, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

INSTAURATION OF THE CARTESIAN MIND

Did Charlie write this? INSTAURATION OF THE CARTESIAN MIND If so I think it is worth mentioning --Polysophia (talk) 00:22, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Untitled

I'm not sure if it's worth mentioning the Moral Orel credit; The creator mentioned in and interview that Charlie Kaufman provided the story, but it's a far cry from having been an actual writer on the show. The two had worked together in the past, and had simply came up with it in conversation.--64.114.135.25 (talk) 07:36, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

the swamp ape/deus ex machina

The sentence about the deus ex machina is a bit ambiguous. Firstly the fact that the alligator in the film is a deus ex machina is not obvious to someone reading this article. But the wording of it is also a bit ambiguous because it doesn't refer to the versions of the script (but the reference does). Perhaps something like: an ealier draft of the screenplay had a swamp ape instead of an alligator as the deux ex machina if this was indeed the case. Or the expression could be dropped entirely, and just mentioning that a swamp ape was in a draft before being replaced by an alligator in the final version would suffice. (Lcohalan (talk) 06:43, 7 September 2011 (UTC))

abelard

Pope didn't invent Peter Abelard for his poem. His love affair with Eloise was well documented and has been retold for centuries. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.143.138.252 (talk) 09:05, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

lede and brother

I looked at this page before watching Adaptation because I was curious about Charlie Kaufman. I didn't want this important part of the film to be given away in the lede. I think it's inappropriate to give away the fact that his twin brother is fictional - that information appears lower down in the page and belongs there, not in the lede. Now my edit has been reverted but I hope you see my point of view. Totorotroll (talk) 16:40, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
