Hatnote link[edit]

Yes, Skeezix1000, I disagree with your edit changing Charlotte County Courthouse (disambiguation) to Charlotte County Courthouse in the hatnote. Charlotte County Courthouse is a disambiguation page. WP:INTDABLINK says:

To link to a disambiguation page (rather than to a page whose topic is a specific meaning), link to the title that includes the text "(disambiguation)", even if that is a redirect—for example, link to the redirect America (disambiguation) rather than the target page at "America". (If the redirect does not yet exist, create it and tag it with {{R to disambiguation page}}.) This helps distinguish accidental links to the disambiguation page from intentional ones. (For use in navboxes, see the {{D'}} template.) There is nothing wrong with linking to a redirect instead of linking directly to the disambiguation page; redirects are cheap and are basically transparent to the reader.

That guideline is directly applicable here; what are your reasons for wanting to disregard it? --R'n'B (call me Russ) 13:01, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I was reading as far down as the "When to link to a disambiguation page" section, not going to a further section and thus not seeing the relevance of the guideline. I couldn't see how it applied to an edit that seemed bizarre on its face, but I wasn't reading far enough down. I apologize for that. In the future, though, it might be helpful to refer to more than just the shortcut in the edit summary when you encounter someone like me who is obviously not clueing in -- it will save you the trouble of having to write an annoyed note like this one. Thanks for taking the time to do so, though. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:48, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's a bit long for an edit summary. :-) But that's a good suggestion, thanks. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:53, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. A more specific short-cut for the paragraph in question might be helpful, for use with editors like me whose eyes glaze over after the first two paragraphs. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:48, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
