BLP PROD[edit]

I'm not this article's creator, but still happy to comment. This article appears to be a spinoff of Arrest_and_trial_of_Chen_Ziming_and_Wang_Juntao, and reliable sources can easily be found there. Chen has some international notability, for example, winning a CPJ International Press Freedom Award in 1991. But whether he's best left combined with Wang Juntao as he is now, or made into a separate article, I leave for others to decide. Cheers, Khazar2 (talk) 06:21, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Right now, all the info here is (I think) duplicated at the Arrest article, seems to me that a redirect would be preferable to the current state. I don't have any objection to expanding the article as a biography if it gets past BLP1E, but if the bio remains, it needs (by policy and WMF mandate), at least one reliable source. --joe deckertalk to me 06:48, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a couple and removed the tag--but really this should be expanded or redirected back, whatever y'all think best. --joe deckertalk to me 06:57, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this should be returned to a redirect, and am doing so now; I'm not sure why an editor created this separate article with so much less info than the Arrest article (that didn't even link there!). If someone comes by later and can make a good argument for this as a stand-alone article, though, I don't have any strong opposition. Khazar2 (talk) 17:21, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I forgot to add the link to Arrest_and_trial_of_Chen_Ziming_and_Wang_Juntao. For the rest, I do not know if these are valid reasons, but let me explain why I created the article:

  • There is a Commons:Category:Chen Ziming (well a tiny category, but on Commons it makes sense to have categories in that kind of cases). I wanted to add a link to Wikipedia so that readers can easily find info about the person. The most maintainable way to do that is through interwiki but if the Wikipedia article does not really match the Commons category, it will easily become a mess.
  • I imagine that people are more likely to expand a stub than transform a redirect into a full-blown article. Indeed the parallel article (Wang Juntao) had existed for 9 months as a redirect, and just one month after I made it a stub, other people transformed it into a real article (probably not completely up to Wikipedia standards, but a good start I think). Note that zh:陈子明 stands ready for translation :).--Superzoulou (talk) 14:32, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've got no problem per se with the Arrest article being split into articles on the two individual men, but right now both individual articles seem much weaker than the Arrest article. (The Wang Juntao expansion is such an unsourced, POV mess that I'm about to have to delete most of it.) This strikes me as a shame, since anyone coming to Wikipedia to read about one of these two might not follow through to the article that actually has information. Probably the better way to do this if you're motivated is to propose a split at the Arrest article; you can then break that down into sourced, quality articles on each man. I would ask, though, that you not create duplicate articles here until you're really interested in seeing them through to the quality of the original. I've got all the pages watched now, so I'll be glad to support when you do this... just let me know. Cheers, Khazar2 (talk) 03:05, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
