Siyo,

For everything pertaining to Ani-yuniwiya there was a Clan, well over ninety Clans.

Remember a Tribe consist of Bands, and Bands consist of Clans.... Well a Band house x-amount of Village in a region area, each Band would house one major Clan with a couple of minor Clans.

Think, in modern times we only speak of seven Clans, yet count them and it comes out to be more than seven:

1. Wild Potato 8. Bear 12. Racoon 15. Blind Sabannah 2. Long Hair 9. Twister 13. Hanging Down 16. Wind 3. Blue Holly 10. Panther 14. Wild Cat 17. Red 4. RedTail Hawk 11. Bird 18. Raven 5. Deer 19. Turtle 6. Paint 20. Eagle 7. Wolf

With seven lays with nine others, look at the clues, and see for your selves, read the history with an open mind and see the truth. Our Ancestor's were rebuilding there cultural heritage from the war that raged for well over three hundred years, our Ancestors were just a couple of generations into their new future that the start of De Sato came up the Coast bringing death and destruction with him, even after they left, death and destruction was still going on due to the many new dieases lefted behind, as ninety percent of a Band died, where do you think the survives went ? nearest the closes Clan village that was related to them The Turtle Clan was engulfed into the closes Clan near them.

And then the late 1600's as a Southern Band embrace the new belief any Band, Clan our village that did not accept the new ways, were engulfed in one form are another. Read the Facts with out closing your mind, and you will see what I see, many if you are of the blood.

Where is all the evidence, right before your eyes......... Donadagohvi.

just 7 clans?[edit]

It is said there used to be 12 Cherokee clans, but some have been forgotten. Qureus1 08:26, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revolt against Priests[edit]

When did the extermination of the ah-ni-ku-ta-ni take place? Qureus1 09:06, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just seven clans[edit]

Yes, just seven. Jeffrey Vernon Merkey 03:23, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question. Why was the one of the clans called the BLUE CLAN? Didn't the color blue represent weakness?

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.67.212.181 (talk) 16:24, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clans / Colors / Woods[edit]

Some of this information is just plain wrong. More citations and expert verification are needed sorely. I see it has already been marked once for this, and I am also backing up Uyvsdi.

According to Sizemore, Green, and Mooney the list would look more like:

     1. Wolf Clan, black, oak
     2. Blue Clan, blue, beech
     3. Long Hair Clan (Wind Clan), grayish blue, birch or hickory
     4. Red Paint Clan-red, maple
     5. Bird Clan-purple, sycamore
     6. Deer Clan, brown and white, ash
     7. Wild Potato-locust, yellow

Source Information[edit]

A lot of this information sounds rather fanciful and speculative, such as clan colors and woods – citations would be highly reassuring. I see that much of the "Clan Customs of the Cherokee Clans" came directly from the Cherokee Nation's website, so that is verifiable but also is plagiarism. Regarding dances still following clan rules – I know of only a single ground that follows them, and that was a very recent development. Citations and further information would be fantastic! Cherokee ClansCherokee clans – Can't move this myself due to two edits being made to the redirect page. "Clans" does not require capitalization. Uyvsdi (talk) 20:04, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article has a lot of good information, but it is frankly painful to read. It needs to be organized better to make the information flow more smoothly.
  • The article lacks pictures of any sort.
I'm calling it a Start class article, borderline to B-Class. -- PEPSI2786talk 05:10, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
