This cemetery was design by a pioneer of landscape design, Almerin Hotchkiss, who also designed Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn and Bellefontaine Cemetery in St. Louis -which are both Wikipedia articles. The cemetery was the third cemetery in Illinois to receive National Registry recognition.

It was also an important location in the Max Allan Collins' graphic novel, Road to Perdition, which was the basis the Oscar-awarded film by the same name which starred Tom Hanks and Paul Newman.

Alexander Stirling Calder, a significant artist in his own right (and has a Wikipedia page) was the sculptor of a large celtic cross in the cemetery. His son, Alexander Calder, is one of the great artists of the 20th Century. The cemetery had two Triffany windows, but they have been moved because of their increased monetary value. It also has stonework from the Chicago's Columbian Exposition in 1892.

Again, I'm not affiated with the cemetery in any way, so I don't have a list of significant people buried there, etc. I'm hoping for a more knowledgable person to add this information to the page.

I've wikified the article. In my humble opinion, there's ample justification for the significance of the cemetery so I've removed the cleanup template. If anyone disagrees they can always put it back. Charivari 23:05, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
