Orphaned references in Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "david_baird":

  • From Trail of Tears: Baird, David. "The Choctaws Meet the Americans, 1783 to 1843". The Choctaw People. United States: Indian Tribal Series. p. 36. Library of Congress 73-80708. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |origdate= ignored (|orig-date= suggested) (help)
  • From Choctaw: Baird, David (1973). "The Choctaws Meet the Americans, 1783 to 1843". The Choctaw People. United States: Indian Tribal Series. p. 36. Library of Congress 73-80708.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 13:43, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Area of tribal jurisdictional area[edit]

I can't find any recent information about the square mile area of the tribe's tribal jurisdictional area. The cited report dates from 1915 and has the Choctaw Nation at 6,953,048 acres. Anyone have more recent information? -Uyvsdi (talk) 17:53, 30 December 2011 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

When looking at maps of the tribal nations in Oklahoma that date pre-1900 and comparing them to today's maps, they all virtually remained unchanged, so I think the data provided for the area is absolutely fine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Urbanative (talkcontribs) 11:48, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tribal jurisdiction area[edit]

Beyond sick of the back and forth on the issue. A tribal jurisdictional area is not an Indian Reservation or a territory somehow separate from the state; it's a complex and nuanced political entity. For instance towns within tribal jurisdictional areas can choose to incorporate within the tribe instead of the state of Oklahoma, but the overwhelming majority do not. This article is about the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. The majority of the tribe do not reside within the boundaries of the Choctaw tribal jurisdictional area, and the majority of people residing within the tribal jurisdictional area are not tribal members and therefore they are completely irrelevant to the article. -Uyvsdi (talk) 00:50, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Uyvsdi[reply]

Monument to Choctaw Nation in Midleton, Ireland[edit]

Someone might want to add this to the existing section. A monument was built in Bailic Park to honor a $710 donation for famine relief in 1847 by the Choctaw Nation. • SbmeirowTalk • 16:20, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just because the sculpture made by a non-Choctaw artist has been all over Facebook and Reddit doesn't mean it's significant to the history of the third largest Indian tribe in the entire country. The amount was, in fact, $170, which is, of course, worth far more when adjusted for inflation. Yuchitown (talk) 17:15, 20 March 2016 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

School?[edit]

It can be found elsewhere on Wikipedia that the Choctaw Boarding School (founded C.E. 1825) was the first Native American boarding school. There's nothing here about it. It's part of the Choctaw Nation's history, isn't it? (I don't know enough about it to be sure...)174.130.72.24 (talk) 19:15, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Choctaw related[edit]

My grandfather was Leo Tripp from Oklahoma. He was Choctaw. Would like to know more about my heritage. Thank you. Jack Tripp South Carolina 2601:741:8002:7D70:B8D9:23DA:E941:F49B (talk) 01:24, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
