WikiNotability[edit]

Dr Lattner's Notability-in-Wikipedia's-sense comes from his work on LLVM and clang (both of which he designed). While LLVM is already significant (=WikiNotable), mainly in Apple Inc software, it will become much, much more significant over the next few years. When clang is finished, it will also be very, very significant to programmers worldwide; it may even displace gcc in many projects.

Recognizing this impending importance, various computer magazines, journals and news-sites have carried articles about LLVM/clang, interviews with Dr Lattner, etc. So there is no shortage of good secondary sources about LLVM and clang. However, I have not been able to find any good secondary sources about Dr Lattner himself (as opposed to his projects). So I guess we'll have to put up with a stub-class article here until a Reliable Source does a profile of Dr Lattner.

Getting back to the question of WikiNotability, 3 items from WP:CREATE apply here:

  1. regarded as an important figure
  2. known for originating a significant technique (actually, two significant software systems)
  3. created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant and well-known work that has been the subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews

So I have removed the {{notability}} tag from the article. Cheers, CWC 10:17, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since I wrote that, Dr Lattner "has received a significant award" (quoting WP:ANYBIO) from SIGPLAN. CWC 11:31, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Biography[edit]

I think it will be much more better if there are Lattner`s photo, birthday and age. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.52.67.64 (talk) 20:33, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to email him about questions (clattner at apple.com), he doesn't edit wikipedia but appreciates the project and is adept at email. I asked him, his birthday is Sep 1978. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 17.226.35.52 (talk) 23:09, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Chris Lattner[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Chris Lattner's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "lattner2014":

  • From Swift (programming language): Lattner, Chris (2014-06-03). "Chris Lattner's Homepage". Chris Lattner. Retrieved 2014-06-03. I started work on the Swift Programming Language in July of 2010. I implemented much of the basic language structure, with only a few people knowing of its existence. A few other (amazing) people started contributing in earnest late in 2011, and it became a major focus for the Apple Developer Tools group in July 2013 […] drawing ideas from Objective-C, Rust, Haskell, Ruby, Python, C#, CLU, and far too many others to list.
  • From Objective-C: Lattner, Chris (2014-06-03). "Chris Lattner's Homepage". Chris Lattner. Retrieved 2014-06-03. The Swift language is the product of tireless effort from a team of language experts, documentation gurus, compiler optimization ninjas, and an incredibly important internal dogfooding group who provided feedback to help refine and battle-test ideas. Of course, it also greatly benefited from the experiences hard-won by many other languages in the field, drawing ideas from Objective-C, Rust, Haskell, Ruby, Python, C#, CLU, and far too many others to list.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 21:35, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Undisclosed paid editing[edit]

The recent updates to the article look an awful lot like undisclosed paid editing to me - I'm afraid I can't go into more detail. The article is currently very reliant on references to press releases and primary sources and needs cleanup before the flag is removed. SmartSE (talk) 10:36, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Without going into more detail, you're just making unsubstantiated claims. 1o8x (talk) 01:42, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
