Cristian vs Christian[edit]

El Clarín, La Nación, Página 21 & es:Christian Von Wernich all give his name as "Christian". Page move? Lapicero 12:49, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Christian" is the German rendering of "Christian"; "Cristián" is the Spanish rendering. Christian von Wernich may have considerable German or Austrian ancestry -- but he was 'serving' the Argentine military as a chaplain. The aristocratic von apparently needs not be dropped in Argentina.

The decisive criterion is most likely... what was his official name while a chaplain in the Argentine military? That should decide.

....

Isn't it time for a list for clergy gone bad... clergy who turn terrorist (Paul Hill), serve a criminal regime and become war criminals (Josef Tišo, are caught in financial scandals or child sexual abuse? I'm not talking about the garden variety of adultery or heresies; those are either commonplace or a matter of judgment. Murder, torture, rape, theft, and child abuse are incontrovertible crimes. I'm not discussing politically-motivated trials (Mindszenty, Bonhoeffer). Although clergy are no less human than the rest of us, they are not above the law. They should be above major sins -- such as murder. --Paul from Michigan 04:18, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Christian vs Christián[edit]

None of the Argentine newspapers covering this story spell his name with an accent. Lapicero 14:00, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect trial figures?[edit]

The article says that he stood trial for 41 cases of kidnap and torture but was convicted of 42 cases of kidnap. Presumably you can't slap on extra charges mid-trial so either he was charged with more than 41 cases of kidnap or he was convicted of fewer than 42. Can anyone verify this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.176.105.56 (talk) 16:03, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
