Honestly, I'm shocked (to say the least) that people insist in put her nationality as "Mexican" or "omit" it. I've been editing soccer/football articles here since always and the rules are clear. A player's nationality is given by the place they was born or NT they represent. Simple as that. These are FIFA rules and WP rules. If a player never played for any NT at any level their nationality is given by the place they was born. If a player played for a NT at any level their nationality is given by the NT they played for. You can call Burkenroad "Mexican-American player", but never "US-born Mexican player". Also, the national flag before her name must be the US flag. If Burkenroad plays for MexWNT one day then we change her nationality. Right now, Burkenroad is a player who was born and raised in US and never played for any NT. Yes, I'm against it. You can see the discussion against hyphenated nationality here, here, and here. Given that she was born and raised in the US, has played most of her career there, and hasn't played for any Mexican NT, I would put "American footballer" in the lede. @Nehme1499: 'American' goes with 'soccer player', not with 'footballer'. Anyway, at this point of her career where she is playing in Mexico being a dual citizen who has never represented the United States internationally (neither Mexico, certainly), she is currently using more times her Mexican citizenship (over her American one). So, to put "American soccer player" in the lede is not the most appropriate (at least, not in the current context). If the lede needed to include nationalities, "American-Mexican footballer" would be a good one. 'American-Mexican' instead of 'Mexican-American' because the former goes with 'footballer' and the latter with 'soccer player' (the closet nationality to occupation defines occupation's name). 'American soccer player' would be fine again if she leaves the Mexican league and still does not play for the Mexican WNT.--MonFrontieres (talk) 16:09, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm proposing "Mexican-American" as a compromise. Actually, according to the consensus here, she's American. As said above, she never played for MexNT. Here on WP, normally, a player nationality is defined by: A - Place he/she was born or B - NT she/he plays for. I don't understand why we should open a exception for Burkenroad. Her main citizenship uses to be the United States, but now that she is playing in Mexico, where she is also a citizen from, her current main nationality is Mexico. Unless she starts to represent the USWNT (it does not seem to be the case), she cannot be referred as "an American in Mexico". She may be referred as American when she in the US and the rest of the world (excepting Mexico), but being in Mexico she is mainly Mexican.--MonFrontieres (talk) 01:34, 7 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter where she's playing now. When a player NEVER played for a national team (which is Burkenroad's case), her nationality is the place where she was born. That simple and it's used everywhere here on WP, since always.
