Merge proposal[edit]

no evidence that mr. morcom is notable in his own right, so this should be a brief mention, as is, in the turing bio. Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There once existed a "Christopher Morcom Prize for Natural Science", I'm having trouble finding the details of it. fintler (talk) 14:35, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Page 168 of this book [1] has a reference to someone winning it. fintler (talk) 14:36, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, what is your argument for a merge? I don't see an argument for lack of "notability" (since you want him to be in the Turing article). Are you arguing that there isn't enough content on him to flesh out an article? I've found a few pictures of him as well as a few obscure references. Over time this article may grow to a decent size (although it will be relatively small in comparison to Turing's article of course). fintler (talk) 14:56, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi fintler (talk). The merge proposal is because there is no evidence of notability for Christopher Morcom. He was a friend of Alan Turing, but that is not notability. It has nothing to do with how much material we can find. We could pick anyone off the street at random and investigate them, gradually finding more and more information, even adding pictures, but that would not be a reason for an article. It is right to mention him in the Alan Turing article, because his reference there is in context. Timothy Titus Talk To TT 07:53, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • This discussion seems to have stalled; however, the arguments about the subject's own notability and the sole brief reference to a prize that "once existed" show consensus for merger. Since all that is in the article appears to be in Alan Turing, all that's needed is a redirect of the article but I will leave this page as a record. Rodhullandemu 21:03, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
