DVD cover to 1 Night in China

1 Night in China dvd cover

I added the picture of the DVD cover 1 Night in China to this page. User:McPhail removed the image with the comment that the picture should only be used on the page of the video/dvd itself. I don't see why. What do others think about this? Ik.pas.aan 01:35, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

It seems needlessly inflammatory to include a pornographic video cover within an article about a person who was notable several years before the release of the video. McPhail 17:20, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
I disagree. The videotape/dvd itself may be controversial but she stars in it and its legally for sale. Therefore it is mentioned in the article about her and I don't see why this can't be illustrated by a picture of the cover of the dvd. Her being notable many years before the dvd was released is not relevant to this discussion in my opinion. There are many other pictures illustrating that part of her life. Ik.pas.aan 20:48, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm with McPhail. Aside from being unnecessary to show who the article's talking about, it needlessly skews the article toward one facet of her career. Laurer did not become famous because of the video. Bcarlson33 22:44, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Her worst question is when people ask her if she has ever bitchslapped her boyfriend.(She can os shes so strong.)

Still, many guys have a crush on her.

Why has no one raised the possibility that she might have an intersex condition? She clearly is not a transexual, but she is obviously not a "normal" woman either. A google on her name with "intersex" turns up nothing useful, which leaves me confused. 70.20.179.75 00:05, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

She has a condition (can't remember what it is, I saw it on wikipedia though), where her clitorius is shaped like a small male penis. Atleast that is what it seems like. user: GZadmin 20:42, 27 January 2005 (UTC)

An enlarged clitoris is a common side effect of heavy steriod use by female bodybuilders.81.154.3.61 09:06, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
She's not a hermaphrodite. Move on with your lives. Bcarlson33 23:50, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

shouldn't we briefly mention her epic clit somewhere in the sex tape blurb? i'll put it in. (and if you take it down and make a fuss, Bcarlson33, that means that you aren't over it, not me.)

She isn't a hermaphrodite, but I still think that this is something that shoudln't be let go. Her steroid use has to be written and recognized.--[[User:Screwball23]Screwball23]] talk
At first when I saw that picture, I was convinced she was a Hermaphrodite. I have seen pictures before of Intersex people's genitalia, and it looked very similar. I read now that clitoris are very similar to penises, and that steroid use can enlarge them. I dunno what to think anymore, but that picture really freaks me out.

I think her strange clitoris can be discussed as an enciclopedic issue. Also is an important fact for people to come to wiki wanting to know more of her. Sully76cl (talk) 15:44, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

I dont really care, she is a woman. If I could have sex with her I would suck her clit all night long. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.31.109.163 (talk) 20:15, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Move On!

Could we please get back to her life! So what if she's not fully female or male? She is a person just like everyone else! Sure she's made many mistakes but let her worry about them, not us. Let's move away from that disgusting sex tape. Thanks.

just because something bothers you does not mean that it is not worth mentioning. if she were in fact "not fully female" as you seem to think (she is, it's just a REALLY freaking huge clit), that would be very worth mentioning.
Okay you can mention it but it's stupid to keep mentioning it over and over and over again. Why don't you just find her and check for yourself. you obviously haven't seen masculine woman before. Just look at the other former or current female bodybuilders and tell me that they're all female. I meanlook at Nicole Bass, is she female/ I don't think so. Just get over it and go on with your life. Gosh.

Six Figure Offer?

What is the source of this news? I've never read it anywhere else and it could simply be a claim rather than an actual offer. Bcarlson33 22:44, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Sex tape

"In 2004, it was claimed that Laurer and Waltman made a sex tape during a vacation to China earlier that year but Laurer did not go to China with Waltman."

This is a bit confusing. It says Laurer did not go to China with Waltman but clearly she did since they made the sex tape. Is it trying to say she claimed she didn't go or what? I'm rather confused and someome needs to correct. Nil Einne 11:49, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Joanie did not go to China with Laurer. To get around the WWE's ownership of the "Chyna" name, they called the tape "One Night in China" as a double entendre. That way, the name "China/Chyna" could be used without violating the WWE copyright. Laurer went to China and filmed a few scenes of him walking around the country and visiting landmarks, and that was edited into the sex tape footage to justify the use of the word "China" in the title of the movie.

"However, it later became clear Laurer wanted nothing to do with the material. To this date she has never accepted money from the sale of the sex tape. However, in the 2005 documentary 101 Reasons Not to Be a Pro Wrestler, she admitted that filming the tape was her idea and said that she and Waltman wanted "to share" their love life with everyone. She also stated during the interview that she was proud of the tape."

This part also seems confusing. Firstly it makes it sound like it is still clear that Laurer wanted nothing to do with this date and states explicitly that she has not accepted any money. Then it goes on to say that she was proud of the tape and admitted she basically wanted the tape to be out there for everyone to see. These seem contradictory. I suspect she after initially claiming she was going to accept royalties she later made it seem liek she hated the tape and wanted nothing to do with it nor to get any money from it but then later she finally claimed that it had been her plan all along. If I'm correct then it needs to be update to reflected that these are various claims made or implied by her at various stages rather then making it appear any of them are implicitly true. Nil Einne 11:57, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I edited out the line about Laurer possibly returning to the WWE, since there's no reason to believe she will. Mr. Papaya 02:59, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Very strong POV

I edited this page to make it more neutral, as it was previously very bias towards Joanie. It claimed that basically Séan Waltman was a woman-beater and she was totally innocent, depite their being claims from both sides of domestic abuse and the fact that Joanie Laurer is the only one of the two to have been arrested and obtain a criminal record due to her domestic violence towards Mr. Waltman.

Protection?

Should this page be protected? There is a lot of vandalism from new and/or unregistered visitors. Can somebody take care of that, I'm stupid when it comes to most things on wikipedia, so I'm not entirely sure how to go about it. Thanks. Nikki311 05:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

WWF/WWE Career

Why does this section seem to intertwine both factual information about her career and the story lines of the show she appeared on? This should be sperated in to 2 sections covering the factual account and story lines seperately. As is it almost tries to present the story line as events that took place in realilty.Macutty 03:22, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

"Chyna is one of only two wom2en to have an undefeated reign as WWE Women's Champion, along with Trish Stratus. Chyna is, however, the only one to remain undefeated and defended her title until she left the WWF."

Alundra Blaze did it, when she left WWE for WCW and dumped the Women's Championship in a bin on WCW television. Chyna is one of three women as far as I know.

But Alundra Blaze had lost her title previously, as had Trish Stratus. However Chyna was never defeated.

Sable is one of them too. A tournament was needed because she dissapeared when she was champion

No actually Sable didn't dissapear with the WWE Women's title becasue she lost her title to Debra in a Evening Gown Match!!!!!

implants
Later in the book, Laurer revealed that the structural integrity of the Chyna 2000 prototypes was relatively weak, and that one of them ruptured during a wrestling match, necessitating surgery.
I read the book a while ago, but I am 90% sure that the breast implant that ruptured was the normal large implant. After it ruptured (because it needed to be replaced anyway) it was replaced with the custom model.

Chyna - normal breats Chyna - Got the largest implants available but wasn't happy with them. Later one ruptured Chyna - Got another set of implants, this time her own model Disco 01:47, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

This article should be swiftly moved to Chyna. She legally changer her name,[1] so there should be little to argue about. Since Chyna already just redirects to Joanie Laurer, I wanted to suggest a change first without just going and doing it. --Zimbabweed 07:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

People will confuse Chyna with China. RandySavageFTW (talk) 13:06, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

How has she been billed since leaving the WWF? Has she made media appearances mainly under her own name or used Chyna? I'm asking because I live in the UK, and I only know her to be billed as Chyna, so for the moment Neutral. Oh, and your reason, is verging on point-y. Funny how SRX opposed Rhyno saying people might confuse it with the animal rhino. Then I do the same thing and someone labels it something that doesn't make sense. RandySavageFTW (talk) 13:45, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
He actually said per the many spellings of Gerin's Rhyno alias meaning that Rhyno has been know as Rhino, Chyna has not wrestled as China. So not the same. Darrenhusted (talk) 13:53, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose, she's never wrestled or has been known as China in any way. She briefly used the name Chyna Doll for copyright purposes, but has since legally changed her name to Chyna, so that's what she will be known as from now on. Nikki311 15:43, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

She also gained the services of his valet, Miss Kitty. Laurer claims that Jarrett demanded (and received) $300,000 from Vince McMahon in order to lose the title cleanly to a woman.[36] His contract had expired on October 16, and he was therefore not contractually obligated to appear on the pay-per-view.[37] If he had not appeared, the WWF would have been criticized for false advertising, and the lineage of the title would have been broken.

I think should be removed- the WWE always advertise thier shows as "card subject to change" in case of no shows- so had the IC title not happened it would have ticked off the people who bought it for that match but not like they would file a class action lawsuit.

Paper Doll

In April, 2009, Chyna published a fashion book, Paper Doll (World Audience Publishers) in black and white and color, which she spent over a year preparing. She then had an affair with her publisher, M. Stefan Strozier. They broke up and he then published more pictures of Chyna in a magazine called Audience and he wrote a satire of Chyna that he published in that magazine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by BigHaus (talkcontribs) 01:28, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Edits to early life section

I have made two edits to the early life section:

  • changed "had her first kiss" to "sexually kissed".
  • removed "allegedly" from the word "rape".

"Sexually kissed" is an awkward phrase, but I can't think of a better way to neutrally describe a adult kissing a minor in a sexual fashion. "First kiss" has strong connotations of a mutually consensual romantic interaction. The law would not consider it so since a 12 year old and adult cannot legally have sexual interactions. Many psychologists would also dispute it since this was not a peer-to-peer interaction.

"Allegedly" was removed because it is misplaced in this context. No particular individual is being accused. Therefore "allegedly" does not serve its usual function of qualifying and allowing for doubt about an accusation against a particular individual. With no accused to protect, the use of the word merely implies the author's doubt about Chyna's veracity. That would seem to me a point of view given that to the best of my knowledge, the only witness of record to incident appears to be Chyna. Certainly there is currently no cited source in the article indicating that other eye-witnesses have stepped forward and disputed her claim. Egfrank (talk) 05:55, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

Birthdate

The site currently sourcing her year of birth is a German website. There are various English-language sites indicating the year anywhere from 1968 to 1971. In fact her MySpace profile presently indicates she is 40.

Why isn't anyone doing anything to correct mistakes?

I have been reading some of the posts. The post that interests me the most is the Chyna birth year debate. I have read both arguments (1970 or 1972). To me it appears that 1970 is a much stronger argument than 1972, espeally if Chyna's offical myspace site states 1970 and she's 38. But what I find sad is that no one has corrected the article section, or at least have stated that her birth year had both been stated as 1970 and 1972. Now what I find even more sad is some people (but not me personally)find wikipedia as not being too reliable in being accurate with information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aysachyna (talkcontribs) 23:11, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I work for the Peace Corps, and I can verify it is 1969. Also, she served only 30 days and it was in Costa Rica and not Guatemala. There is no doubt.

When I read the paragraph in her autobiography "If They Only Knew," she actually gave us some hints on those pages as to her year of birth: Shocking Blue's "Venus," Blind Faith splitting up, The New Casper Cartoon Show ending its run. All those events point to the year of 1969. Why? Blind Faith broke up in 1969. Shocking Blue released the single "Venus" in 1969. And, The New Casper Cartoon Show ended its broadcast run in 1969. Those all mean she was born on December 27, 1969. WikiPro1981X (talk) 04:03, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

CHYNA did not make a sex tape with Sean Waltman. Sean Waltman physically mentally and financially abused CHYNA and that is the reason she sought therapy through Dr. Drew. She did not have a substance abuse problem. She had problems with the abusive men in her life. It's bothersome to have such a loser like Sean Waltman with his sleezy rape tape of her on the WIKIPEDIA of such a tremendous woman! Nobody wants to see that! Can someone please help the healing and please take that out! I know it bothers her! Put her resume on there if you want to be "WOW'ed". After all the triumphs. She is a living legend and better than I have ever seen her! The fans adore her and love her! She is truly a woman who has done so many things on her own two feet! We love you CHYNA!

Also her siblings were Katherine and Joseph Laurer Jr. aka, Sonny.

Also, CHYNA served in Costa Rica...not Guatemala.

Also, CHYNA, felt abandonned by her family and uses her full legal name CHYNA as of 2007 after winning her name in court.

She is now the top seller and draw with VIVID Ent.

These are some additional facts that come straight from CHYNA's current acting CV under Special Achievements!!!

Actor? Should be "actress"

She's not a pornographic film actor, she's a pornographic film actress. No matter how husky :). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.247.0.78 (talk) 08:15, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Retired from porn

According to http://sportsandwrestling.mywowbb.com/forum1/29912.html, and according to http://www.sup69.com/news/chyna-retires-from-porn-to-become-english-teacher/, Chyna has retired from porn to go off (and of all things) become an English teacher. Legit? Beat's the hell out of me. All I know is what I read here. Verifiable? Again, beat's me. True? Don't know either. You tell me... 137.183.232.24 (talk) 18:31, 23 July 2013 (UTC) She also has a youtube channel called CHYNA TOKYO where she talks about teaching English

Rewrite paragraph on early life.

The second paragraph under "Early Life" needs to be rewritten. The events described in it are all slapped together haphazardly with little transition between each one.AntonioRoma (talk) 21:48, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Age?

Doesn't it say it her book that she was born in 1969 or was I mistaken?(MgTurtle (talk) 02:46, 29 August 2008 (UTC))

I used the book to source the article...but the book never gives the actual year, just the month and day. Nikki311 18:02, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I work for the Peace Corps, and I can verify it is 1969. Also, she served only 30 days and it was in Costa Rica and not Guatemala. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.205.231.250 (talk) 20:42, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Even worse Guinness World Records lists her as born in 1971!!!!--78.144.45.135 (talk) 12:49, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

WikiPro1981X (talk) 04:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

This should be updated. She was born in 1969. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheBradSeed (talkcontribs) 04:08, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes she was definitely born in 1969. They give the wrestlers DOB before a match in Japan and it says 1969.12.27 for her. Look up one of her Japanese matches on YouTube to see this. Plus an Intelius search for Joan Marie Laurer shows her to be 44 years old as of today, which is again consistent with a 1969 and not a 1970 birth year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hs90 (talkcontribs) 20:43, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

I would like to add on the personal section for Chyna. I have her on Twitter and would like to update visitors by writing about what she is currently doing (teaching English in Japan) I would also like to add some more detail about her pornography career which she talked about on the Howard Stern interview so it can be sourced. In addition to this I would like to add that Chyna does have a strained relationship with her family however she lived with her Step mum in Germany etc... (all of this is factual as is it is taken from her Official twitter account)

Twitter verification

Per https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9657T7p1BsQ&t=3m45s she says "my official Twitter is at Chyna Joan Laurer" and the YouTube profile which uploaded this video mentions "@ChynaJoanLaurer" which would be https://twitter.com/chynajoanlaurer so I think this would serve as proof that this is the handle she was using during October 2014 right? Has over 3800 followers. https://twitter.com/chynatheicon has over 24 000 but I'm not sure if that's her yet. Ranze (talk) 02:29, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Steve Austin podcast and Vince Russo interview

Going to add mention of this to her personal life along with the assault navigatons.

Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Probably going to get covered somewhere.

Also worth mentioning is contrast to Seth Rollins nudity issue:

  • Kenny Herzog (February 10, 2015). "'WWE Raw': Seth Rollins' Penis 1, Wrestling 0". Rolling Stone. Retrieved February 16, 2015.
"Triple H – who may have never counted on this when detailing his industry's modern dilemma on Stone Cold's podcast"

Hoping for some help here. Ranze (talk) 09:36, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Category for retirees

Since Chyna has not had a porno released since 2013 this got me wondering if we might have a category for sex workers or pornographic actors who are retired. Many occupation-based categories are worded in the present tense, which some might read as them still being active in the field. 64.228.88.84 (talk) 00:08, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

This is not apparent by the art because it only shows the front but I actually have the old case here and I can see Chyna is actually on the spine of the box, wondering if that is worth mentioning since it shows how prominent she was at the time.

There's also a pic of her on the back. Ranze (talk) 02:21, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Under "Early Life" heading:

Please change "She had two older siblings: Janet and Sonny." to "She had two older siblings: Kathy and Sonny."
I have literally just read her book "If They Only Knew", and page 31 identifies her big sister as "Kathy".

Thank you kindly. :) 123.243.210.152 (talk) 01:45, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Done Haven't read it myself, but I believe it - her mother is apparently named Janet, and her sister is identified as Kathy later in the section Cannolis (talk) 20:26, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

The listed death month is wrong. It reads "March" but should read "April." --172.250.86.102 (talk) 05:04, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Date of death

Deaths in 2016 has had it listed as the 18th. The collective thinking there is from this source which states:

Joan Laurer, was discovered by friend in her Redondo Beach, California apartment on [April 20] – and she may have been dead for days...Investigators believe she died Sunday night or Monday. Chyna appears to have been active on social media on Monday morning.

I'm not going to change her DOD on her article, to prevent edit wars, but I'm sure the 18th will be more accurate or closer to it. — Wyliepedia 11:56, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

I put a "c." for circa next to it yesterday. But it was fixed. Then refixed. And finally fixed and refixed. For what "active on social media" is worth, her Twitter account also tweeted her death announcement. InedibleHulk (talk) 13:22, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Wrestling Info Box

Should she not have a Wrestling on her info box similar to that of other professional wrestlers such as Chris Jericho and Lita?Adamprin (talk) 17:39, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

She does, it's just lower, in "Professional wrestling career". She's spent more time as a general celebrity. InedibleHulk (talk) 18:45, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
She has an "adult biography" infobox to include the six porn films she made. She probably would be better off with a basic infobox like John Cena has, with the professional wrestling infobox connected to the bottom of it. She's certainly more known for her work in wrestling than for her work in adult entertainment.LM2000 (talk) 20:25, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:04, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

Birth year 1969 or 1972

As a big fan of Chyna, I believe in providing true information about the 9th wonder of the world. Now in many articles and websites it clearly states that she was born in 1969 AND NOT 1972 (please check it up). Therefore when providing people information, it is important to me to provide the correct information, and not mislead them in believing false information. If indeed my information is incorrect, which I would except, please do provide scorces of where the information is stated or can be found. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.138.73.249 (talk) 04:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

The article has the information sourced with [10]. In the article, which is considered a reliable source, it says she will turn 29 in December. The article was written in 2001, which makes her birthday in 1972. What are your sources for 1969? A wrestling fan site does not count as a reliable source. If she says it in an interview, I'd accept it. Nikki311 04:21, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
More proof: her official website's biography has her date of birth as 12-27-1972. [11]. Nikki311 04:31, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

I checked out her offical site, which I'm grateful you provided, and it appears we might both be wrong about her birth year being 1969 or 1972, because if you carry on reading the link you provided the artical states she was born in 1970. I don't know if 1972 is a typing error, but I checked up her myspace site, which I got from her offical site and it does say 1970 and her age is 38.

Here are sites which are none fan sites that say 1969. There are a lot more none fan sites that state 1969, but I'll only give you a few of the well known sites: -

Sites that says 1970, and perhaps the most accurate information, but otherwise the best thing is to email Chyna to get the true info: -

Those first four websites are not considered reliable, but the last three (her official fansite, not her official website, my bad) worries me. I'll try and e-mail the webmaster to see. If I don't get an answer, or there are more conflicting reports, we can add a note that her birthdate has been reported as both years. Nikki311 21:15, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Here are a couple of sites, which I consider to be reliable: -

I work for the Peace Corps, and I can verify it is 1969. Also, she served only 30 days and it was in Costa Rica and not Guatemala. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.48.1.72 (talk) 01:57, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

The police investigating her death say she's 46, and that's pretty easy to deduce when they check her ID. The New York Times isn't a fansite and explicitly says "Joan Marie Laurer was born in Rochester on Dec. 27, 1969." Case closed? InedibleHulk (talk) 16:12, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Agree, and also, the source from NBC says: "She was born Dec. 27, 1969, and online biographies that listed her age as 45 were incorrect, her manager told NBC." Jauerbackdude?/dude. 18:53, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
I reverted your unsourced changes (your quote in your edit summary isn't the same thing as citing your source), but have reinstated them now that I see that the source already cited for her birthdate (the New York Times) has issued a correction at the linked article that is substantially the same as the NBC quote.
