Translation in progress - Week of 3 July 2005

  • I've made spanish cinema redirect to this article. Also: has anyone noticed that searching for "Cinema of Spain" does not pull up this article? What am I missing here? Let's have fun this week with this one, Wikipedians. Fernando Rizo 3 July 2005 22:30 (UTC)
  • Hi, I've been having serious issues with the chart at the bottom of this page...perhaps I should sleep and look at it tomorrow. Almost none of the columns seem relevant or are very clear. I fail to see why the percentage column is necessary (but I think I'm missing something). Why do we need to know what percent of all of the viewers are spanish? And if this is necessary, is there a more clear way to indicate this (I had to pull out a calculator to convince myself that the percentage meant just that). Is the "Spanish success" heading a too-literal translation of something? I changed the heading to "Movie title" though this doesn't quite seem right to me. Oh, and what the heck does the last column heading signify? I'm totally at a loss over that one, but again, maybe I'm missing something. I just found this "translation of the week" page and I love the idea, for what it's worth. Snowmanmelting 5 July 2005 03:44 (UTC)
  • Hey hey! I've just gone ahead and done my best on the Civil War section, but I also left in the Spanish. Since I'm certainly not fluent, if anyone could maybe just look over that and see that I did everything right... One change I did make was to change the world "Cuplé" (for which I could find no translation) to "Culpé". This may have been incorrect... Anyway, if anyone can take a look and let me know (either here or on my Talk Page), I'd be quite grateful. -- CABHAN TALK CONTRIBS 6 July 2005 03:44 (UTC)
  • The remark that pornographic cinema has found "a Mecca" in Barcelona seems to me to be in singularly poor taste. -- Jmabel | Talk July 6, 2005 22:48 (UTC)
    • A fine point. I'll change that right now. Fernando Rizo 7 July 2005 04:20 (UTC)
  • I've made several little corrections, mostly of typoes (and one surname, "King" that should be "Rey" but must have been translated by mistake). They are my first changes in the wikipedia, and I haven't described them well enough in the summaries - I'm sorry, I'll be more careful from now on. Pedro Gómez-Esteban 7 July 2005 07:15 (UTC)

Small suggestion

I don't know much about Spanish cinema, but an aquaintence in Spain told me I should see Berlanga's ¡Bienvenido, Mr. Marshall!. From a google search, it seems it is considered a classic by the BBC at least. Thought it was worth bringing up, though I suppose it is possible it is not worth individual mention. Anyway, keep up the good work. - Taxman Talk 17:46, July 20, 2005 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Ay Carmela.jpg

Image:Ay Carmela.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Removal of link to Movie Movie pages detailing the history of Spanish cinema

Hi, I am the author of the website Movie Movie, and felt that the section in my website relating to the chronological history of Spanish cinema [3] was an appropriate and relevant link to this page. I was disappointed, therefore, to discover that it had been deleted by an editor for apparently contravening guidelines. I would be grateful if somebody could explain why the link is not considered acceptable so that I can avoid attempting to provide Wikipedia users with similar unacceptable links in future as I have no wish to offend users or editors. I fully understand that links to Wikipedia do not affect a site's rankings, and while I want to make my site available to as many interested visitors as possible, I have no desire to make any personal gain from placing the link on Wikipedia. Many thanks for your help. JoeytheBrit (talk) 19:46, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
