Genres[edit]

I listed a RELIABLE source saying the song is Pop and dance-pop. However, Xwomanizerx doesn't seem to agree with me. I listed a reliable source, which should be enough. Here's the source:

http://allmusic.com/album/circus-r1483251

Nickyp88 (talk) 18:32, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a reliable source Xwomanizerx. 3 genres isn't alot, alot would be 5 genres. Nickyp88 (talk) 00:51, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so the Allmusic link you provided lists Pop/Rock solely as genre. I think we can agree that Rock isn't a genre? :) Dance-pop is only listed under style, a very different thing. Xwomanizerx (talk) 00:53, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Of course its not Rock. However in the styles, it says Pop and dance-pop. I would come to the conclusion that the song is Pop mixed with dance-pop and electropop, because it isn't has dancey and electronic has her newer songs, like Till The World Ends. Circus is more popish than her newer songs. And style basically means the same thing as a genre. a music genre is a style of music. Nickyp88 (talk) 00:57, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not the same. You're assuming it is. The thing with the Allmusic link is that the pages are probably programmed automatically to fit the descriptions of the artist. Hence why "Girls Night Out" is listed under Theme (?), while the song's Mood is "Stylish, Cheerful, Sugary, Gleeful"... We can't just take some information from a reference and leave some other information out of an article accordingly to what we think is right. That's why I see the link as invalid. Even more so if you compare it to the Popjustice link, which has a journalist reviewing the song and accurately describing it. And also it's really annoying that you just don't care about properly referencing it. :P Xwomanizerx (talk) 01:04, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've said this before. Dance-pop and pop are in the styles. Style basically means genre. People have been using the style section on allmusic as a reference for a while now. And I think you are over-reacting. You don't want dance-pop and pop to be listed because you don't think it's right. On wikipedia, it's not about what you think. It's about the references listed. You are treating this situation like I added a whole bunch of genres without reference. I only added two genres and you are reverting. I have properly sourced the genres, and unless someone can find an article stating this section of allmusic is unreliable, then it remains reliable. End of story. I even found another source for the two genres, which I will be listing, and I know for a fact this is a reliable source. Nickyp88 (talk) 01:14, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
"Style basically means genre". No it doesn't. And I don't know what "people" you're referring to, but that's WP:OTHERCRAP. I'm not overreacting. I just think the link (although Allmusic is a reliable source) it's dubious and listing 38483 genres makes the article poorer, not to mention you still refuse to properly edit the reference. It's nothing personal for me, but it seems like it is to you. Xwomanizerx (talk) 01:19, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Unless someone can find an article stating this section of allmusic is unreliable, then it remains reliable. End of story. And I already found another source for the Genres. Nickyp88 (talk) 03:12, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Allmusic uses the same genres for EVERY song by an artist, just saying. nding·start 03:54, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I already found another source for the genres. Nickyp88 (talk) 04:18, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What about we do this. Since both sets of genres we have are in dispute, we delete both of them, and search for a third source, and agree upon whether it be used in the article or not. nding·start 04:52, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. Nickyp88 (talk) 05:25, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Would this be reliable? http://www.artistdirect.com/nad/window/media/page/0,,4855298-15179634,00.html
It says "Pop, dance" Nickyp88 (talk) 05:32, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No. Usually reviews are best for sourcing genres. Sites like that just stick something on it. nding·start 05:57, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can we at least agree on Dance-pop? Most of Britney's music is dance-pop. Nickyp88 (talk) 07:41, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Both Allmusic and Musicnotes are unreliable for genres. Any user using them should be trout slapped even when explained. — Legolas (talk2me) 13:37, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
They are reliable according to the administrator I talked too. Nickyp88 (talk) 02:57, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It says on WP:ALBUMAVOID that it should be avoided. "Biography/reviews are fine, but do not use genre sidebar, as it is generated from a separate source from the prose." The prose -- the main body of the article -- is reliable. The sidebar is automatically generated, most likely from Amazon, and not reliable. 115.164.51.13 (talk) 08:49, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello? Couldn't anyone add info on the Twister Dance Rave version of the song, plz? Visokor (talk) 15:23, 6 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Circus (song)Circus (Britney Spears song) – Spears's song is not the only one of this name; see Circus (disambiguation). Per WP:SONGDAB, if there is only one article about a song with a given title, that article may use the "(song)" disambiguation without further disambiguation. However, since Circus (1949 song) also exists, the Spears song article needs to have further disambiguation. • Support - Per nominator. Meatsgains (talk) 02:32, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. "Circus (song)" is an incorrect title that fails the article naming criteria. Taylor Trescott - my talk + my edits 03:23, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move per WP:SONGDAB. Redirect Circus (song) to Circus (disambiguation)#Songs. — Sam Sailor 11:05, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment. The only other song titled "Circus" that has an article is Circus (1949 song). I'm skeptical that this passes WP:NMUSIC, as I can't find non-trivial coverage anywhere. If it's deleted, this article should stay put per the consensus per this RfC.--Cúchullain t/c 14:35, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait until the AfD discussion for the other song is closed. SSTflyer 01:14, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Relisting comment - the outcome of this seems to hinge on the AfD discussion mentioned by SSTflyer. Relisting to give that one time to play out before we make a determination here.
  • Oppose - The other song is obviously currently at AFD and it looks like it's gonna be deleted so moving this would then be pointless (Obviously if the other song wasn't at AFD then I would've supported). –Davey2010Talk 14:04, 2 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose seeing as the other page will likely be deleted. Traveltoromantis (talk) 00:02, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment "Circus (1949 song)" has been deleted. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 19:58, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per AfD result. SSTflyer 07:55, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Circus (song)Circus (Britney Spears song) – There are now two other songs with this title with articles (Circus (Lenny Kravitz song) and Circus (Stray Kids song)); both are charting singles, and the articles appear to be sufficiently referenced. Further disambiguation is needed here. —ShelfSkewed Talk 18:03, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nom, and redirect [Circus (song)]] to DAB.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:41, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:SONGDAB. 162 etc. (talk) 03:02, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the Stray Kids song has 655 views and the Lenny Kravitz song has 63 while the Britney Spears one has 1,825[[1]] which probably isn't enough for a PDAB. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:26, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. While I think the Britney song is likely the more recognizable of the three, I can understand the benefit of further disambiguation to help readers who are looking for songs with this title from other artists. Aoba47 (talk) 15:26, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
