Updating History, Operations, Products

Hi again! Similar to previous requests I've made above, I'm submitting a request to update this article on behalf of Citrix Systems as part of my work with Beutler Ink.

History
There were a few major events in 2017 that can be added to Recent history, including an expansion in Ireland, layoffs and office closures, expanded partnership with Google and Red Bull Racing. I've prepared the below draft which can be added to the end of Recent history. (Please note: My proposed text is marked is green.)

History
Recent history

Citrix reported net income of $251.7 million in 2014, down from $339.5 million in 2013.[1] In July 2015, the company announced several changes to its board of directors, including Robert Calderoni's becoming executive chairman and adding Jesse Cohn as a senior partner of activist hedge fund Elliott Management.[2] That same month the company announced that president and CEO Mark Templeton would retire after a replacement was found,[3] and on October 21, the company named its executive chairman, Robert Calderoni, as interim president and CEO.[4]

In January 2016, Kirill Tatarinov, a former Microsoft executive, was named the president and CEO of Citrix and joined the company's board. Calderoni remained executive chairman of the board.[5]

In July 2016, as part of a deal with Boston-based SaaS company LogMeIn, Citrix announced it had spun off its GoTo product line, which included GoToMeeting, GoToWebinar, GoToWebcast, GoToTraining, GoToAssist and GoToMyPC, into a wholly owned subsidiary called GetGo.[6] In February 2017, Citrix completed a merger through which GetGo became a subsidiary of LogMeIn. The transaction was valued at approximately $1.8 billion.[7]

In April 2017, Citrix said it would grow its office in Dublin, Ireland, which first opened in 1999, adding 150 employees in sales and technical support to its roster of 255 employees, in addition to 26,000-square-feet of additional office space.[8][9]

In July 2017, David Henshall replaced Kirill Tatarinov as the company's CEO.[10] Henshall's initiatives include refocusing the company's cybersecurity and analytics while moving to a software subscription model.[10]

In October 2017, Citrix told regulators of plans to lay off staff "across most functions" and consolidate offices in the fall 2017 into 2018.[11] The moves included layoffs in Raleigh, North Carolina, and office closures in Santa Barbara, California, and Tempe, Arizona.[12][13]

Citrix expanded its partnership with Google in 2017. In May, Google announced it would add support to run Citrix XenApp on its Chrome web browser, including graphics processing unit acceleration.[14] In July, the companies announced they were working to allow Citrix Cloud to deploy virtualized apps and desktops on Google Cloud.[15]

Red Bull Racing uses Citrix to send data collected from the race track back to its engineers at the racing company's Milton Keynes, England, headquarters.[16]

  1. The information under "Operations" was implemented.
  2. The information under "History" represents a large revision to the article, as you have proposed an entire section of text. While the new information proposed to be added is shown in green — by including it with the rest of the section's unchanged text, the implication is that you wish the section to be deleted while the new section is inserted wholesale. This cannot be done without consensus. If you wish individual statements to be added, please add them individually to your request without the appurtenant unchanged texts.
  3. The reference provided for the information under "Products" is an editorial, and is declined. WP:NEWSORG states the following:

Editorial commentary, analysis and opinion pieces, whether written by the editors of the publication (editorials) or outside authors (op-eds) are reliable primary sources for statements attributed to that editor or author, but are rarely reliable for statements of fact.

While quotation marks are placed around the quoted information, the author's name is not included in the quote, and the statement includes information that is not quoted. Regards,  Spintendo  ᔦᔭ  04:20, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Spintendo! Appreciate your review. Sorry it wasn't clear, it's just the green text at the end of the History proposal that's new content, everything else is already in the article. I'll post a fresh request just showing the material to be added and will also see if I can find a better source for Citrix Analytics. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:20, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Updated edit request for History and Products

Hi again, as requested by the editor who responded to my request above (Spintendo), I have broken my request for updates to the History section into individual statements, to review and add to the article if they look ok:

  • First, I have a short paragraph on Citrix's Ireland expansion, which can be placed between the third and fourth paragraphs of Recent history:
In April 2017, Citrix said it would grow its office in Dublin, Ireland, which first opened in 1999, adding 150 employees in sales and technical support to its roster of 255 employees, in addition to 26,000-square-feet of additional office space.[1][2]

  • Next, this sentence may be added at the end of the existing fourth paragraph of Recent history:
Henshall's initiatives include refocusing the company's cybersecurity and analytics while moving to a software subscription model.[3]

  • Third, the following information on Citrix layoffs and office closures may be added below the final existing paragraph of Recent history:
In October 2017, Citrix told regulators of plans to lay off staff "across most functions" and consolidate offices in the fall 2017 into 2018.[4] The moves included layoffs in Raleigh, North Carolina, and office closures in Santa Barbara, California, and Tempe, Arizona.[5][6]

  • Finally, I have two further additions for the end of the Recent history section, if they're considered appropriate to add:

  1. The information provided for the content proposed under Citrix Analytics represents (a) information taken from a blog; (b) a sentence proposal which seems like it has been cut-off in mid-sentence. Looking at the text comparison below offers a clue as to why — but is there really no other way for this sentence to be re-paraphrased grammatically without cutting it in half? Please advise.
  2. "In April 2017, Citrix said it would grow its office in Dublin, Ireland, which first opened in 1999, adding 150 employees in sales and technical support to its roster of 255 employees, in addition to 26,000-square-feet of additional office space." Information regarding the company's intentions over their future use of office space is not germane to the article. Once that office space has been opened and is in use for an acceptable amount of time — whereupon productive activities performed there by company employees would foster newsworthy events — that is the time for these offices to be mentioned.
  3. I need your help to better understand the text used here: "Henshall's initiatives include refocusing the company's cybersecurity and analytics while moving to a software subscription model." My question asks: what is it about this refocusing, that makes Henshall's initiatives important? Please elaborate.
  4. " Citrix told regulators of plans to lay off staff "across most functions" Plans have a way of being made, then never happening. Have these layoffs actually begun? Please advise.
  5. Information regarding Google's support of the XenApp implemented.
  6. "Red Bull Racing uses Citrix to send data collected from the race track back to its engineers at the racing company's Milton Keynes, England, headquarters." Amidst all this information regarding Redbull and their race engineer's telemetry is the essence of what's being said here — which is that RedBull uses a Citrix product. And while that is definately nice for Redbull and Citrix — in the end, Redbull's business decisions seem out of place in a paragraph which is supposed to be about recent Citrix company information. "Citrix unveiled its Citrix Analytics at the 2017 Citrix Synergy conference in Orlando, Florida, in May 2017. "The new Citrix Analytics Service, announced here at Synergy 2017, uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms to track user activity ... and identify and respond to abnormalities..."[1]
Thanks for your review here, Spintendo! Responses to your notes in order:
  • The sentence proposed was meant to paraphrase the source material. It reads fine to me, but I have taken another shot at rewording this and will post up a new request below.
  • Understood re: office opening, I was thinking of this as noteworthy event in terms of the company's geographic footing but if you feel it is not newsworthy enough, I won't press the issue!
  • For Henshall's initiatives, these were mentioned by Citrix when announcing the new CEO and since it was reported by Fortune, it felt germane to include.
  • Regarding the layoffs, I'll post up a new wording that makes this more clear but essentially, my original first sentence states when Citrix announced there would be layoffs. The following sentence gives examples of places where layoffs and office closures took place (The News & Observer source has Citrix confirming the layoffs there, and the Santa Barbara Independent source says the staff of between 30 and 40 was down to four.)
  • Finally, re: Red Bull, the reason I included this was to show how Citrix products are used, as was written about in Ars Technica, but if it doesn't seem appropriate, I'm happy to leave this for now.
Thanks again, I'll follow up here in a moment with revised wording for the couple of items above that needed some work. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:36, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Request for layoffs and Citrix Analytics

Thanks so much again to Spintendo for the thoughtful reviews and responses above. Herewith my updated proposals:

The following information on Citrix layoffs and office closures may be added below the final existing paragraph of Recent history. I've updated this wording following Spintendo's feedback above:

In October 2017, Citrix told regulators of plans to lay off staff "across most functions" and consolidate offices in the fall 2017 into 2018.[1] The company carried out layoffs in Raleigh, North Carolina, and office closures in Santa Barbara, California, and Tempe, Arizona.[2][3]

For the Products section, I'm proposing addition of a Citrix Analytics subsection, based on new sourcing and with updated wording following Spintendo's feedback above:

Editor's feedback: The corporate history of this company is vast, and as such, the history section has become unwielding to further edits. The entire article is confusing to read and even more confusing to edit. I propose that to release the pressure on the main article, a different article be set aside for "History of Citrix products" just as in the case with the separate article for "List of Citrix acquisitions". The Citrix page ought to be the repository of information only about the company itself. Its products are better served being described elsewhere.
When you compare Citrix Systems with another company article like AT&T you see two completely different articles. One is a nicely pruned and organized, triumph of information delineation — while the other clearly is not. There's no reason why the management style of the AT&T article can't be achieved with the Citrix article. Instead of adding to what is becoming a mess, editors ought to be thinking of redesigning the Citrix page for the future. Spintendo ᔦᔭ 00:34, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

Quick edit request: fixes to introduction

Hi all! Late last month, an IP address editor made a series of changes to this article. While most changes were copy edits that seem fine, some of the edits have led to confusing or inaccurate wording in the article and I'd like to bring these instances to editors' attention to see if they can be fixed. Per previous requests on this page, I am here on behalf of Citrix Systems as part of my work at Beutler Ink and will not edit this page directly, due to my financial COI. Just two edits to propose here to address the issues from the recent editing:

1. The first sentence was rewritten from

Citrix Systems, Inc. is an American multinational software company that provides server, application and desktop virtualization, networking, software as a service (SaaS), and cloud computing technologies
to
Citrix Systems, Inc., doing business as Citrix, is an American software and cloud computing company. Its multinational offerings include server, application and desktop virtualization, networking, and software as a service.
The wording is now a little confusing and inaccurate (depending on how you read it), since the company itself operates as a multinational and has operations across the globe, it is not just its offerings that are multinational. I suggest editing per the following wording in green:
Citrix Systems, Inc., doing business as Citrix, is a United States-headquartered multinational software and cloud computing company. Its offerings include server, application and desktop virtualization, networking, and software as a service.

2. In the second paragraph, the wording "later developed a close working partnership with the company" re: Microsoft is inaccurate. If you read the History, you'll see how the company worked with Microsoft from early on and Microsoft even invested in Citrix in the early 1990s. I'd like to request that this wording either be replaced with what was there before, or simply removed. The previous wording was: "and has been in partnership with the company throughout its history."

I hope that someone can review this and make the appropriate change in the article. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 19:40, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

@Altamel and Timtempleton: as you have both reviewed my requests here before, would either of you be available and interested to take a quick look at these couple of small fixes? Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:33, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

Pronounciation

In some countries where English isn't the primary language, the company name seems to be pronounced like ZEE-tricks or SEE-tricks. Is the common pronounciation in English "Citr" as in "citrus" and "ix" as in "Unix" (thus sounding somewhat like SY-tricks), and is there some official statement of how the company would like to see/hear it pronounced (maybe an official promo clip on YT where the name is spoken by a company representative)? -- 149.172.203.221 (talk) 20:10, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Seeking input on Products section

Hi again, I was looking over this article recently and noticed the Products section is outdated. Citrix's products underwent a major rebranding last year. As a result, Citrix dropped its Xen and NetScaler brands, so many of the product names in this article are incorrect. Some other products have been discontinued since they were added to this article. Additionally, the subheadings do not seem entirely necessary any more as technology changes have blurred the lines between some of these distinctions. Previously, editors had mentioned the article was becoming confusing to read and edit. All in all, I'm wondering what other editors think: would you support simplifying Products to a much more straightforward and short statement of the company's major offerings?

If there is support to the idea, I'm happy to prepare draft material for editors to consider using to streamline this section.

Finally, would editors be comfortable with me setting up archiving on this Talk page? I noticed that the earliest conversation here goes back to 2010...

Per previous requests on this page, I am here on behalf of Citrix Systems as part of my work at Beutler Ink and will not edit this page directly, due to my financial COI. Let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:11, 23 April 2019 (UTC)

@Altamel, Crh23, Timtempleton, and Spintendo: Seeing if anyone who has commented here in the past would like to chime in on this? Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:48, 1 May 2019 (UTC)
@16912 Rhiannon: the talk page is long - I have no problem with you archiving it. The current product info is so short though, I'm not sure the value of shortening it even more, but if what you're saying is true, updating it makes sense. If you write a proposed draft, ping me again and I can review and we can go from there. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:54, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
I've enabled automatic archiving through Lowercase sigmabot. Defaults set at: |algo=730d (2 years), |counter=1, |minthreadstoarchive=1, |minthreadsleft=3. The archive search field will appear in the talk header after the first backup is created. Regards,  Spintendo  21:50, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for setting up the archiving, Spintendo!
@Timtempleton: Continuing this discussion: I've put together a draft Products section that I hope you agree simplifies this section. I'm suggesting removing a lot of specific products names and instead providing an overview of the general Citrix services and products. As I mentioned above, Citrix products underwent a major rebranding last year. As a result, Citrix dropped its Xen and NetScaler brands, so many of the product names in the live article are defunct. Some other products have been discontinued since they were added to this article. I'm trying to make this section a bit cleaner and reflect Citrix's current offerings.
Let me know if you have any feedback. Once again, confirming I have a financial COI here as I am offering these suggestions on behalf of Citrix as part of my work at Beutler Ink. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 01:39, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
@16912 Rhiannon: This is more complicated than I thought it would be. You removed more than a dozen products from the product section without any notice of what happened to them. I think there needs to be something added to the history section explaining this mass culling more clearly. The below section I added summarizes how much is there now, versus what would be there with your new version. This might even warrant a history subsection - perhaps "2018 Product rebranding", where this could be addressed. This source is a good place to start [[1]] TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 07:47, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
@Timtempleton: Thanks for your feedback here, I appreciate what you're saying about the product names "disappearing"; I'm thinking about how best to summarize this without adding too much detail (I know in the past editors have been concerned about getting into minutiae on this page). More soon! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 01:20, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

@Timtempleton: I reviewed the current History section and identified a paragraph that could be updated to achieve what you're asking for here: a description of exactly what happened to previous brand names. This way, the names are not simply deleted from the article without explanation. Additionally, I toned down some of the language in the existing section, which read as quite promotional to me. Can you take a look at the draft below and tell me what you think?

Revised History paragraph
In 2018, Citrix changed the names of some of its products to represent its shift to a cloud operating model.[1] The company stated that it made the name changes to present a unified product line so that end users can create, manage, and deploy workspaces with apps and data from a single console. The company dropped its Xen and NetScaler brand names: XenApp and XenDesktop became Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops; XenMobile became Citrix Endpoint Management; ShareFile integration became Citrix Content Collaboration; XenServer became Citrix Hypervisor; Cedexis became Citrix Intelligent Traffic Management; and NetScaler products kept their identities, yet the "NetScaler" brand name was replaced with "Citrix".[2]

Done @16912 Rhiannon: I saw your original ping but it slipped my mind. I confirmed that the sources confirmed the product changes as you described, and put your code in. I also updated the access dates in the refs. I think you can now get away with proposing an update to the current product section, since there's now a record of the old names. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 21:02, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks so much for looking at this. I'll put together a fresh request for the Products section now and hopefully editors will be comfortable making that update. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:25, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

Products section request

Hi again, I am submitting a request to update this article on behalf of Citrix Systems as part of my work with Beutler Ink. I previously asked here about streamlining the Products section. In discussion with TimTempleton (see above), he suggested updating a portion of History first, to describe the changes to a number of Citrix products in 2018 when the company unified its product line. Following that update to History, I am reposting my suggestion to trim down Products.

In short, the Products section is outdated because of the 2018 major rebranding. As a result, Citrix dropped its Xen and NetScaler brands, so many of the product names in the current section are incorrect. Some other products have been discontinued, and with changes in how the products are organized, the subheadings do not seem entirely necessary any more. As well, previously, editors had mentioned the article was becoming confusing to read and edit. Taking all of that into account, I'd like to suggest simplifying Products, and my draft below tries to make this section a bit cleaner and reflect Citrix's current offerings. I'm suggesting removing a lot of specific products names and instead providing an overview of the general Citrix services and products to hopefully mean fewer changes needed future.

Hello! I'd like to propose an update to the logo in the article infobox, which I am requesting on behalf of Citrix as part of my work at Beutler Ink as User:16912 Rhiannon has in the past (and as disclosed at the top of this page). I've uploaded Citrix's new logo for fair use, which is available at File:Citrix Systems logo.svg.

Would an editor mind replacing the old logo with the new one to the infobox? @0qd: As you recently helped with a request to clean up some vandalism on this article, perhaps you wouldn't mind also reviewing this simple update? Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 17:43, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

@Inkian Jason: Hi, I've verified this is indeed the new logo via the website for Citrix Systems and have updated it. Thank you for following COI procedures. 0qd (talk) 23:42, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
@0qd: Thanks for your help! Inkian Jason (talk) 15:11, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello again! In full disclosure, I'd like to post links to my requests to update the logo at other Wikipedia projects. I am unable to upload the logo under fair use at non-English projects, but I'm hoping other editors may be willing to help. Please see the following links:

Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 21:59, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

@Kingofthedead: Hello! I posted requests to update the company logo at several Wikipedia projects. User:4ing at no.wikipedia and User:Alphama at vi.wkipedia suggested the logo should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. I was curious if you agree and if you'd be willing to transfer File:Citrix Systems logo.svg to Wikimedia Commons on my behalf? I am not sure how this process works. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 21:56, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@Inkian Jason: Just done. I've noticed a lot of logos are incorrectly marked as copyrighted (and can only be used by fair use) when actually they're simple enough (just text or simple shapes) that they're in the public domain. See Template:PD-textlogo for example. Kingofthedead (talk) 22:06, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Also for future reference check out Commons:Threshold of originality to determine what's public domain. Kingofthedead (talk) 22:07, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
@Kingofthedead: Thanks for your (very speedy!) help. I will share this Wikimedia Commons URL on the various Wikipedia talk pages. Some of the articles have the old logo, some have no logo, but I am not comfortable editing the main spaces directly because of my conflict of interest. But at least now the logo is there for future addition. Thanks again! Inkian Jason (talk) 22:10, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
