City history[edit]

As of April 2, 2009, the page contained a history section that was essentially the same as the City of Citrus Heights website's history page. The WP text contained a note "disclaiming" this fact, but it still amounted to a bit of plagiarizing, so I removed the text but linked to the City website's history page.

I saved this, however, since I did not see it in the City of Citrus Heights history page text:

In the context of the immediate post-WWII period (right after "In 1947, Citrus Heights obtained its own post office"):
Increasing demand for housing in the 1940s attracted developers to the area, which was easily accessible from Interstate Highway 80 and the Southern Pacific Railroad system, with a local switchyard.^[1]

Dialing Down Racism on Wikipedia[edit]

Why do we have half a dozen different designations for Indigenous Americans? Why are we still saying "Whites" when we're talking about European Americans? Why are we saying "Asian", when we mean Asian American? Isn't it time to level up a bit?

I've left Native American, as opposed to Pacific Islanders and Latin Americans, even though that's like quibbling over whether a European is from Ireland, Germany or Italy - because making people equally American - regardless of whether they come from Europe, Asia or Africa, is already a pretty big step.

The custom is to refer to Indigenous Americans originally from the southern continent as "Hispanic" because they speak Spanish, or Brazilian Portuguese -- even if they speak really good English. How does that make sense?

Surely it's time to learn to say "Latin American", instead of a much more uprooted "Latino" (even though both designations are referring to the language spoken by the Pope) . . . although, if we were just to say "Indigenous Americans", like we say "African Americans" (no one worries even about east, west or north Africa), we'd be looking at a bit more critical mass - in Citrus Heights, anyway.

I've undone your edit, as these are literally terms the US Census contains. It's disingenuous to use alternate names. For such a change to be made, there would need to be an RFC to ask Wikipedians what to use. As it stands, Wikipedia uses what the government uses. @Fb2ts: Don't get mad at Wikipedia editors for correctly sourcing US government data. If you want fake info there are plenty of places to find it on the web, just keep it off of Wikipedia. Proposed "To do list items" for Citrus Heights[edit]

I am a former resident of Citrus Heights who now lives in the Bay Area but have been back to visit family. There has been lots of changes lately.

First things first, I think the economy section needs expansion but don't quite know how to go about this. Yes they do have a Walmart and Sunrise Mall. However the lot Walmart is in has had vast expansion regarding the retail outlets. It has Costco, and also AppleBees. Also the shops along Auburn Blvd at Sylvan Road seem to be notable in a sense since that whole stretch of road seems to bring in business.

The other thing is the education thing. Sylvan Middle School (The old one) was demolished and a former elementary school (Citrus Heights Elementary) was transformed into the New Sylvan Middle School and they follow a STEM educational curriculum. There have been talks by the city to also build retail expansion on the old school lot and eventually call that area Downtown Citrus Heights.

There have also been talks about Sunrise Mall that it may permanently close or have a new development plan for it.

Missing is also a picture of the new city hall.......... If anyone has one they can add to it.
