This article is written in Indian English, which has its own spelling conventions (colour, travelled, centre, analysed, defence) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.

On 16 September 2023, it was proposed that this article be moved to Civil Service of India. The result of the discussion was not moved.

Civil Services → Civil Services of India – A couple of months ago, this article was moved by User:Filpro from this name which it has had for 6 years, without discussion but with the logic that there is no other article with this name. There is of course Civil service with which this name is easily confused because it is the plural of that phrase. I don't see why Civil Services should not be a redirect to "Civil service", especially when Civil services (which the mover also changed to make a point) and Civil Service also point there. To argue that this is the common name is to ignore the fact that there are numerous other civil services in other countries that could also claim to be commonly know as just "Civil Service" by the local population. Filpro has not explained why the Indian Civil Services are so special that they need such a generic title. Are they referred to by this name by anybody outside India? "International Journal of Academic Research"[edit]

I've removed this source. Looking at the journal's website it claims an impact factor and an award from the same organisation, the "International Institute of Organized Research" (I2OR) which is on Beall's list "of questionable companies that purport to provide valid scholarly metrics at the researcher, article, or journal level."[1] Applying for the awards seems to require a fee and the organisation has a gmail address.[2] Doug Weller talk 13:11, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IFS - Forest or Foreign?[edit]

Civil Services of India → Civil Service of India – To conform to naming convention adopted by other articles, such as Civil service of Japan, Civil Service of the Republic of Ireland, Civil Service of the People's Republic of China, Civil Service of the Russian Federation. Article is about the general concept of civil service in India. Service(s) is used to mention list of Services, as in Civil Services Examination. Comment. What is this called in India? I'm not sold that consistency is a strong argument across countries - we're not moving United States Department of State to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (United States) out of "consistency" with completely separate countries. We should use whatever term for the civil service that Indian English prefers per MOS:TIES. SnowFire (talk) 21:20, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
