Is Clan Stuart of Bute recognised as its own clan?[edit]

Good question, I think probably yes. Stuart of Bute is not listed by of the standing council of chiefs, but that may be because the marquise is not a member https://www.clanchiefs.org.uk/chief/ . However the old web page of the standing council, which listed all clans that the Lyon recognises of having of having had a chief, does have Stuart of Bute. see https://web.archive.org/web/20070310191254/http://www.myclan.com/az.php Yours ever, Czar Brodie (talk) 18:34, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Right, thanks for the informative reply. I'm just a bit sceptical of wiki editors seemingly dubious understanding of the relationship between clans/branches. An example is MacLeod of Raasay which had formerly been titled as "Clan MacLeod of Raasay" until I moved the page. Fitzkarl (talk) 11:17, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have the 1994 edition of the Scottish Clan Encyclopedia which was approved by the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and it does recognise a Clan Stuart of Bute as its own clan with a chief. That book is nearly 30 years old now maybe a a more recent edition could help. Cheers. QuintusPetillius (talk) 12:38, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
