Manga page

This is the page for the manga, so why is it full of anime pics for all the characters...if there are going to be anime pics for all the characters, then they should have the manga versions next to them... -Vega —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.11.113 (talk) 23:58, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

  • This is the page for Claymore. It is for both the manga and the anime. --The Virginian 02:33, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
It's indeed for both the anime and manga. The article should be named "Claymore" to avoid confusion. Unfortunately (just like the "bleach (manga") article, that articlename was already taken. Twsl 10:29, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Name "meanings/origin"

Do you think it would be useful to add some information on the not-so-common names (like Miria, Miata...)? Of course, while trying to find some official/reliable sources and not too much (one sentence for each should do). I thought it could be interesting, since Claymore doesn't seem to have any really invented names, but not sure if other people think the same way :) Minikui 20:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Started by adding the origin of Ruvuru/Rubel/Louvre, so you see what it looks like, if nobody complains I'll continue. By the way, according to the japanese wiki, all of the members of the organization are named after some art museum, but don't really know where to add that in the english article Minikui 21:26, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. I didn't know about those museum. I know Japanese Wiki mentioned that Deneb is named after a star. This star appear in some oriental mythology. More apparent references are from Greek mythology: Helen, Galatea, Flora, Cynthis, etc. However, these names are too common to make the meaningful point.

I don't know if this helps much, but the town of Pieta made me think of Michelangelo's Pieta. It says pieta is Italian for compassion. And there's also the Claymore Rafaela. That made me think of the Renaissance painter. As for Deneb/ve, Deneb is a star in the constellation Cygnus.Adolon 06:15, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Those of the Abyss

I think these are major spoilers. I believe they should be left out or put in spoiler tags. John Kingston 213.83.99.5 08:21, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

A lot of the material needs spoiler tags - I'll add them now. By the way, post new sections at the bottom of the page. --Darkbane 11:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
  • clear spoiler warning on top of the page. "Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow." pretty standard. other wiki entries will have the full plot including ending included. it's ok though —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Acff (talkcontribs) 16:49, 14 May 2007 (UTC).

Sleeping in beds

The fact that Teressa found sleeping in a soft bed uncomfortable doesn't prove anything. Perhaps there was some phyiological reason. Perhaps she just wasn't used to it. Sleeping in an unacustomed position/bed is uncomfortable. We just don't know. Conversely, Irene had a bed in her house. John Kingston 213.83.99.5 10:00, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Terms used in the English Manga

I based my edits on the published English translation of the manga. However, it is only up to volume 6 and may be slighly bowdlerised. It uses the terms "Awakened ones" and "voracious eaters", which, although technically correct English, are long and awkward phrases. On the other hand, using "Awoken" as a noun is not technically correct English. It would have been better if they had used "the Awakened" and "devourers", but we can't change the past. On the other hand "bulimics" is not only bad English, but is also extremely unscary and makes them sound like the worst they can do is throw up on people. John Kingston 213.83.99.5 10:15, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Help

I need some help in using a consistent writing style. I'm under exams in this period, and I can't get my head around the structure of some sentences. I have the horrible sensation that occasionally my phrases do not make sense. Federico Pistono 19:37, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

It IS the official page ...

The link you've provided IS the official webpage for Claymore, by its publisher, Shueisha...

I've modified the description to reflect this fact...

Recent copy edit

Hi all! Just wanted to let you know that I, as a member of the League of Copyeditors, am working on this article. I've done some pretty substantial rearraging of text in the sections above Characters, but all of the information is still there--there were several duplicate sentences in different sections, etc., which I have streamlined. I'm currently working on the Characters section, and am about halfway through (I stopped after Sofia).

Also, please note that putting parenthetical statements, like (deceased), in headings makes it nightmarish to create internal links. I've found an alternative way to list that information, so please don't revert them.

If you have specific objections to my edits, please drop me a line on my talk page. Thanks! Galena11 05:14, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Good Job! One statement of the article I object is "Claymores use "incomplete awakening" to increase their strength.". It may not the statement from you. Any kind of awakening is forbidden by the organization, and it only makes the exception for Alicia and Beth.

  • That statement was in the original version. Feel free to correct it as necessary, as I am unfamiliar with the manga. Thanks! Galena11 23:45, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Future

I heard that monthly jump is going to be ending in June. What will happen to this manga? Does anyone know? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steelplank (talkcontribs)

The manga will run on the weekly Shounen Jump for awhile, and it is still monthly basis.

That's right. And, this manga will transfer to new magazine which will be first published in autumn.--Swind 04:11, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Just a suggestion

I would suggest that someone get rid of character sub-sections. It made the Table of Contents huge and it would better follow the guildlines of WP:Anime(Duane543 17:37, 26 February 2007 (UTC))

Done. --Remy Suen 02:17, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Generations section moved

I've taken the bold move to move the Generations section (pun intended) to the List of Claymore characters. I'm not sure if the list of generations has any purpose that can not be reconciled by mentioning the generation in each character's profile, but in any case, it most likely belongs on that page together with the profiles. It's somewhat context-less in the main article. --Darkbane talk 15:49, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Current vs Total Episodes

I seem to remember there being a consensus that for all anime where the end number of episodes was known, that number would be listed instead of listing the last one aired. ANN (listed as a reliable source on the Project Page) has the series listed for 26 episodes: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=7028. Since various other series are already structured this way (Darker than Black, Code Geass, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, Murder Princess, Kaze no Stigma), I went and changed it. Spoiler Warning

Anyone care to put a fat spoiler warning somewhere on the page. I came to find out simply if the series was ongoing, and instead I was hit with a barrage of huge plot spoilers.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.106.218.121 (talk) 06:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

We don't use spoiler tags to mark off plot summary. Read WP:SPOILER. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 07:08, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
"Articles about fictional characters, objects, or places can be expected to include significant elements of the story. They should only contain spoiler warnings around specific details that a reader might not expect to come across." Based on this I think it might be appropriate to do something about this sentence in the Priscilla character description: "As an Awakened being, Priscilla is Isley's companion, and after he fought in the south and she saved him, he works for her." As it it is not something that is immediately mentioned. --Person who posted the First message.

What's going on with this series?!?

Has Claymore been cancelled, halted, or what? A new chapter hasn't been released in the last 3-4 months! Luigi6138 21:03, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure exactly, but it may have something to do with the fact that Monthly Shōnen Jump is now defunct. I'm not sure how the handover of Claymore went to its new magazine. For future reference, talk pages aren't supposed to be for general discussion of the topic. Leebo T/C 21:22, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Suggest separation of "Claymore characters"

This page is a bit bogged down with information about the fictional world of Claymore, when the focus of the article should be the series itself. Including more real-world info and separating some of these sections (the aforementioned "Claymore characteristics" section, most certainly) would do a lot to improve the quality of the article. In my humble opinion, that is. King Zeal (talk) 20:13, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Demographic

Has anyone even watched Claymore, here? It's not Shonen. Shonen is aimed at young boys. Seinen is aimed at and older audience, 16+. Claymore is not Shonen. Crappy shallow stuff like Naruto and Bleach is Shonen. 70.54.1.78 (talk)

Do you know japanese? have you tried going to the publisher's site and seeing how its described by the publisher as a shounen manga? yes, it's described as a shounen manga. --ChuChu (talk) 21:21, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Yes, and Slipknot calls themself metal. It doesn't make them metal though, does it? expletive removed. 70.54.1.78 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 00:52, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Stop it. If the publisher says it's shonen, then it IS shonen. You are not god to decide that it isn't. period. Twsl (talk) 12:15, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Stop it anonymous user. The publisher has the rights so even if they published it as Yaoi, Josei, or whatever, you can't do anything about it. Stop cursing you anonymous coward.Yueyouko (talk) 00:25, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, but it doesn't mean that's what it is, personal attack removed. Slipknot calls themself metal. Lamb of God calls themself metal. Are either of these bands metal? No. The same rule applies here. 70.54.1.78 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 03:56, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Know what anonymous user? I feel you. It's just if we put Seinen instead of Shonen there's a HUGE chance that the publisher will sue this site. Let's stick to the facts. I suggest you to talk to the publisher and Norihiro Yagi and discuss about it. Then if you all decided that it's a Seinen and they will officially announced it's a Seinen: I will change it myself.Yueyouko (talk) 12:40, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

LOL, anyway, the manga can be about whatever, if its a very very bloody manga, but serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump or Jump Square (Monthly Shounen Jump), then it will be a shounen manga. The art style nor the content of the manga matters. These manga will also be published under the Jump Comics imprint, an imprint for boys. You won't find any manga, serialized in any shounen manga magazine by Shueisha to be mentioned as a seinen manga. --ChuChu (talk) 19:08, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Why not ? But in this case we have to create articles and NOT horrible things like that 0_0 => http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Claymore_%28fictional_universe%29&oldid=184951180

No source, no reference, no "see also", no external link and a really bad structure . The previous version was really better ! Anyway the present article is only 31 kilobytes long. It does not seem so long that we had to cut it in several parts. consequently I rv the article to an old version adding the new edits. Mrpouetpouet (talk) 23:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Viz Manga Censorship?

I read somewhere that Claymore in North America had some censorship issues, though it didn't explain what they were. Could someone enlighten me? Is there actual censorship? If so, are they unimportant little edits or are they Naruto-style edits, completely changing the art or script in places? I do not read scans so I was just curious is anyone knew? Thank You. Inconsistencies

There are a few points that caught my attention. There is a part explaning nicknames, an example is "Flas Sword" for Irene, but it categorized as fighting style. I belive it was/is a Special technique just like in the "Windcutter" which is used by Flora. As contradiction, A few paragraph down, miria is called "Shadow Miria". I didnt see it anywhere in the manga. I guess it was "Phantom Miria". --Fotte (talk) 09:04, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

"Flash Sword Irene" and "Windcutter Flora" are the nicknames for those two respective characters, which they received based on their special techniques. As for Miria, however, I'm not sure why it says "Shadow Miria". The only nickname I recall for her is "Phantom Miria". King Zeal (talk) 12:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Hybrid shape

The article states "both Isley and Luciela can apparently assume a hybrid shape somewhere between their Awakened and human form", but Riful is also capable of this( chapters 49 and 62), so i wonder if that ability is common among all awakeneds, at least it is among all the abyssals Yagami Kurono (talk) 23:37, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Teressa's Torso Debut

Referencing to "Early in the manga, it appears that the front of Teresa's torso is hideously deformed, although we never see it directly. However, when we do see Jean's, later, no deformation is seen. This discrepancy has not been explained, though it may be related to the implanting of yoma flesh and its placement." in article. The discrepancy might be beacuse when we saw Jean's, she had returned from complete body awakening. I remember Ophelia put his hand into Clare's torso and when she pulled it back, there was blood on it. She didnt even hesitate to do it. In my opinion This shows all of the Claymores' torsos are like this. Jean was not a normal claymore at that time anymore. --Fotte (talk) 08:47, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Unless Ophelia just scratched her or poked a little hole in her or something.
Also, It looked like fresh blood, but if Clare was constantly bleeding then wouldn't it be noticeable?
Not to mention that Clare never had yoma flesh implanted into her. She just had Teresa's head (which was covered in completely normal looking skin). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.53.37.218 (talk) 09:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Hair

The Claymores' hair seems to not only be bleached by the transformation, but it seemingly ceases to grow. Clare had long hair when she was turned into a Claymore and she cut her hair during that training (I don't really remember which chapter it was, but it was a flashback) to distract a yoma or whatnot and her hair is like that up until now. Sure, it's possible that she kept cutting it in memory of that event, but I doubt it. Can anyone find any more proofs of this? I don't have time and I think it's seriously worth mentioning in the article. Thanks a lot. Nenshoumaru - 85.70.174.197 (talk) 23:42, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Volume 6 info added

Galatea and Ofelia's profiles, new informations about the ranking...

About description

It is just a suggestion. Your writing is clear to me. In my opinion, it would be better with less opinions. The quote like "She will bring sorrow and desperation to everyone who meets her" and "Not much is known about her yet" are more like personal views. It's like saying Flora(#8) is the most beautiful girl so far. Those personal views are not completely wrong, and they may have some truthes.

Ophelia is more than just a psycho killer. Both her and Claire want to kill Priscilla for the similar reasons. You may like her in the next volume. Galatea's story is well known. She's #3 because she can confuse her opponents with yoma power. The confusion can cause them to miss hitting targets. Galatea befriends Claire after they team up to save Jeane(#9). she is punished by the organization after she tries to help Claire.

Thanks for your suggestions

I just read volume 8 and now I understand Ofelia's story, Galatea's power and her team up with Claire. Her punishment must be in the next volume, I guess...

Irene's technique

Galatea just get more jobs to do, since she's still usable for the organization. By the way, I beleive Irene's technique is called "flash Sword".

Could someone upload the rest of the images for the Claymores, that would be great. Many thanks

This article or section has multiple issues. Please help improve the article or discuss these issues on the talk page. Possibly the biggest problem is the lack of pictures of Clair. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.58.159.48 (talk) 15:31, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Claymore Generation & Ranking

Added Infobox animanga flag icons, references to the italian edition, some japanese links about the upcoming anime version. Add Claymore Generation to clarify character ranking.

I think Katia is also referenced as Number #30 by Riful in Vol.8. Wendy is also Number #30 (replacement?) according to Miria during the Northern Campaign. Should Katia's rank be added as well? -- Realmserpent, 03 June 2007

Riful states Katia is at 30s' range, so Katia's rank is not exactly #30.

Some Updates & Corrections

I added the german publisher (Tokyopop), loaded up a new Coverpic (imo the first Cover fits better than the 3rd, although I really like Teresa, Clare is the Protagonist!) -Copyright-box added.

Also corrected the volume info in the first paragraph, 14 Volumes are out in Japan and 12 from VIZ, not 15/13.

Is the Claymore wiki a suitable external link?

The external links rule states, on what not to link to, "Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors." How many people believe the [Claymore wiki] qualifies by this? Its been around long enough, has plenty of well written detailed articles, and while I can't find the number of editors, I believe it a substantial number. Everyone state your opinion please. Dream Focus (talk) 13:45, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

No, it does not meet that exception in WP:EL. It does not have a substantial history of stability, reliability, nor a substantial number of editors It has only been around since August, so no real history at all. It has exactly 7 editors who have made more than 10 edits and only 5 of those have more than 20 edits to their name in any editing space. It is far far below a quality wikia, much less one that would stand any chance of passing WP:EL. No comment on potential copyright issues as well. This was also just discussed at the project space where it was agreed, yet again, that Wikia links do not belong in anime/manga articles. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 14:13, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. It's a mess. It skips over the earlier arcs, not explaining several important plot points (like the entire Teresa story, then goes into mind numbing detail about the latest chapters. Jinx —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.83.99.5 (talk) 09:29, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

So we separate and summarize the plot by arcs isn't very affective. Maybe we could just mention the first arc and briefly explain the other ones except with less detail. We can also just remove all secondary plot sections and make the plot focus only on Clare and if necessary, focus on other main characters with her along side. Also i see the species section is also acceptionally big to be summarized. Everyone approves of summarizing that section as well?Bread Ninja (talk) 18:23, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

No, the article accepts ANY reliable 3rd parrty sources for notability. Removing those would be left with 1st party sources. You are new, and still. Need to leaarn more about wikipedia. They gave you a welcome in wikipedia. So you should check those guides given to you before making big edits. One thing is not remove any information that is sourced without first discussing it.Lucia Black (talk) 05:39, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

No, Wikia is not considered a reliable source as they have a good deal of original research and are user-edited like IMDb.Jamieclaymore (talk) 08:21, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

This isnt about wikia however you are new and making big edits to an article that took a while to fix a long time ago now being turned into another messy article and removal of apparently obsolete and wrong info that was not specified anywhere.Lucia Black (talk) 08:25, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
