  • Are you sure she is best described as "French"? Neither of her parents were, and she lived all over the place. She is described as English here, & taking the father's nationality was something of a default in those days. Oddly, I stayed in Peke's Manor once. @Johnbod: Since there are multiple sources referring to her nationality differently, I can change the word French to European. And I have rephrased her drinking and smoking habits.
