Requested move 6 December 2017[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. I do not see agreement here to rename this disambiguation page as proposed. Suggest an informal attempt to garner consensus for a name change before making a new request. Happy Holidays to All! Code BlueCode blue – There is a redirect of the non-capitalized Code blue to Hospital_emergency_codes#Code_Blue via a redirect from Code Blue (emergency code). So, we have a capitalization issue, a double redirect, and assorted other minor confusion. The capitalization of the hospital emergency code is inconsistent across WP, sometimes title case, sometimes not. I suggest that Code blue become the dab, and everything else is redirected accordingly. Montanabw(talk) 20:13, 6 December 2017 (UTC) --Relisting. SkyWarrior 04:00, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the capitalization issue via use sentence case for titles WP:TITLEFORMAT. I also agree that the Code blue should become the dab and be prominent. And agree that everything else would be redirected accordingly. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:45, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The proposed move sounds reasonable to me as well and I expect it will be uncontroversial. ☆ Bri (talk) 00:55, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, provided that the handful of incoming links to "Code blue" are fixed before it becomes a disambiguation page. bd2412 T 02:44, 11 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. "Code blue" is not ambiguous on Wikipedia. "Code Blue" is ambiguous on Wikipedia.
    1. WP:SMALLDETAILS: Differences in capitalization are not an "issue", but a Wikipedia thing.
    2. There's no double redirect; two different things redirecting to the same article is not a double redirect.
    3. "Other minor confusion". What's the confusion?
(Not relevant, but if "Code blue" were the ambiguous title, it has a primary topic, so this request would then have been to move the disambiguation page to "Code blue (disambiguation)". But oppose that as well, for the same reasons.) -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:23, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Putting aside the capitalization for a moment and looking at JHunterJ's contribution, when I type code blue into the search box and press Enter, I get directed to the code blue section of the hospital emergency codes article. I did not see a notice about the dab article there until montanabw added it recently. In fact, when I created my article, I was not even aware of the dab until a couple weeks later because it was not prominent in any way. Why don't we want the dab article to come up first over a section in another article? I have only been around Wikipedia a little over a year so I am still learning about dab. But from an end user's point of view and the creator of Code Blue (bull), the dab coming up first is what makes the most sense to me in this case. JHunterJ, do you oppose the entire change or just the capitalization change? Can't the dab article become the article that is the first search result while a separate resolution is found to gain consensus on the capitalization of the articles? Appreciate others' input. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:36, 13 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The lack of redirect notice helping readers navigate to the dab page was an issue, and montanabw fixed it appropriately. "Why don't we want the dab article to come up first over a section in another article?" When the section in the other article is the primary topic for a title, we want to lead the readers to that topic first. It's the same whether it's a topic covered by an article all to itself or a topic covered in a section of another article. Currently, there is no primary topic for "Code Blue" and there is a primary topic for "Code blue". That is an acceptable arrangement. If the hospital emergency code is no longer the primary topic for "code blue", then one of two changes could be made ("Code blue" could redirect to the disambiguation page, the disambiguation page could be moved to "Code blue"), but no support for that conclusion (that the emergency code is no longer the primary topic for "Code blue") has been posted. Why do you think the code isn't the primary topic for "Code blue" (given WP:SMALLDETAILS)? -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:49, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Comment by proposer: Given that "Code blue" redirects to a subtopic of another article, AND that the capitalized version is a dab, AND within the hospital emergency codes article the term is given in Title Case (Code Blue), the argument that the hospital code is primary for the lower case spelling is not real strong. It may well be the most common use, and most people will search for "code blue" without capitalization, no matter what they are looking for. But I think that given that the concept does not have a stand-alone wikipedia article, and there are multiple pages with the title, having the dab page primary and redirects from other capitalization pointing to it makes the most sense. WP:PRIMARY has some latitude. Montanabw(talk) 05:02, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In the past, "does not have a stand-alone article" has been turned down as a criterion. Only one of the topics covered here could have the Wikipedia title "Code blue"; there is not Wikipedia ambiguity for "Code blue", per WP:SMALLDETAILS. So it makes the most sense to redirect "Code blue" to the only topic it could be the title for and have the dab page be landing page for "Code Blue", since that capitalization does not have a primary topic. -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:10, 15 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per JHunterJ, who is exactly right. "Code blue" refers to only one topic on WP, while "Code Blue" refers to several. Someone searching for or linking to "code blue" most likely wants the emergency code, and should not be sidetracked. For the minority who want something else, the dablink is now in place. Someone searching for or linking to "Code Blue" might also want the emergency code, but could want the film, album, bull, etc., so is presented with all possibilities. The current setup benefits the greater number of searchers. Station1 (talk) 23:39, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak oppose for now, as the only notable titles appear to use the capitalization. Bneu2013 (talk) 17:22, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
