Rename?[edit]

Could we please rename this article to Code word (telecommunications)? 70.250.179.149 (talk) 01:23, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed my mind. After some revision, I believe code word (communications) would be better. 70.251.6.226 (talk) 01:36, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 8 October 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved this article and moved disambiguation to base title, no move to the "figure of speech" article. Participants clearly agree that the article previously at the base name cannot be considered the primary topic. Consensus is less clear on whether there is another primary topic, but tends in favour of there not being any, so code word should be a disambiguation page. No prejudice against a new RM if evidence can be shown that a primary topic exists, and/or after merges and cleanups of the articles involved. – There is a bit of a mess with overlapping articles, but I think this move is a start. Listing this here as the articles names have been discussed (though there hasn't been active discussion on the topic in over a decade).

I am unsure which article should be moved to Code wordCode word (disambiguation) or Code word (figure of speech). I bring up both possibilities as this could be a WP:NOPRIMARY issue, with "code word" being a plausible redirect to both Code word (figure of speech) and Code name. I lean towards Code word being the disambiguation page.

I also acknowledge that it's possible that Code word (communication) gets deleted, as it's less than a stub. But this request is complicated enough as it is! Wracking talk! 01:17, 8 October 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. — MaterialWorks 12:31, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Broad-concept article?[edit]

As a post-close note to the discussion above, it seems to me like this topic might be best covered by a broad-concept article. BegbertBiggs (talk) 14:07, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes; my reticence towards moving Code word (figure of speech) to the primary topic was largely because of other topics such as Code name. Some (but not all) of the content at Code word (figure of speech) would work well in a broad-concept article.
Some other talk page would probably be better for such discussion, perhaps Talk:Code word? Walt Yoder (talk) 20:45, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
