Article Naming[edit]

This article's name should have remained College Park station (California) as per WP:USSTATION. An operator name should only be used for disambiguation, when multiple stations in the same geographic area have the same name. Using an operator name as a dismabiguator is strongly discouraged otherwise as the article name and all links will have to be changed if the operator name changes or if another operator starts using the station. It should be a geographic place name in nearly every case. Lexlex (talk) 13:38, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I do not understand why you say "remain", as the article was at College Park (Caltrain station) prior to the latest move. USSTATION as written does not support your assertion. It provides for different modes of disambiguation, stating that some may be more appropriate than others, but does not provide the strong guidance that you are implying. It (appropriately, in my view) leaves the disambiguator to be ultimately determined on a case-by-case basis. To respond to your arguments specifically: the guideline states that dab-by-state is most appropriate for intercity rail, of which Caltrain most certainly is not. I believe dab-by-system is appropriate here as "there are ambiguously named stations serving different systems" and "the system is likely to be more recognizable for readers [...] for instance when a major metropolitan area's transit system has stops in outlying suburban communities". As to your point that the title may have to be changed in the future, I do not see that as a persuasive argument to change it now, per WP:NOTFINISHED, WP:DEADLINE, WP:CRYSTALBALL, etc. Regards, James (talk/contribs) 17:08, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
