Prank Names[edit]

I have a feeling the below two names are prank names added by some kid having fun on a computer.

  • "Current Family Leaders" - Horace Washington
  • "Government Informants" - Justin "wog boy" Dilosa (The fact that the nickname isn't even capitalized gives the impression of a kid playing around on the computer.)

Anyway, I have never come across either of them. My guess is this: They don't exist. In the sake of wanting this website to remain somewhat credible, I would erase those names. And the "Current Leadership" part of the article is suspect. Vincent "Vinnie" Aloi has never been listed anywhere as the Colombo Family's current consigliere. Someone is making a speculation or an educated guess, and not stating a fact. Lock & Key 06:23, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Huh?[edit]

  • "...the nationwide criminal phenomenon known as the Mafia (or Cosa Nostra)..."

What exactly does that mean? A "criminal phenomenon"?

Below is the definition of the word phenomenon:

  • phenomenon

noun

  • 1. any state or process known through the senses rather than by intuition or reasoning
  • 2. a remarkable development

The Mafia is developed for a 100 years now. There is no phenomenon about it. It's here and it's here to stay. It isn't something that's amazing and just happened for a short period of time. It should read "the nationwide criminal organization known as the Mafia (or Cosa Nostra)."

I don't correct articles as a rule. I just offer my opinion in the discussion page, and this was my opinion on this. Lock & Key 06:14, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move from Colombo crime family to Colombo family[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was not to move this page

To be consistent with the other NYC Mafia families. Colombo family is currently redirected to Colombo crime family. This would reverse the redirection.

Votes[edit]

  • Support For the reasons given above. –Shoaler (talk) 15:09, 24 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Apologies - perhaps I have misunderstood: The Five Families are all in the format "<Name> crime family" - e.g. Bonanno crime family, Gambino crime family etc. Surely the Colombo crime family should remain in the same format? If I've misunderstood, please be patient and clarify! --Lox (t,c) 10:00, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

I've removed this page's entry from Wikipedia:Requested moves due to a lack of consensus (one vote for, one vote against) on the move. If this changes, feel free to add another request. --Lox (t,c) 13:50, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Current affairs[edit]

Are the current affairs supported by anything but a web site? Are there news articles? 12.72.30.121 20:52, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is meant by inclusion in "See Also"?[edit]

I just removed a name from the "See Also" section. Veronica Zuraw was an ex-nun and innocent bystander shot through the walls of her own kitchen, details HERE. Is everybody listed in "See Also" thought by Wikipedia to be a Colombo family associate? Do they know it? If not, what is the purpose of this section? Maybe it should be removed. --CliffC 01:54, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Stool Pigeons/Flipped/Ratted Out" section added[edit]

I have added the above section. I think it is useful to have such a listing, but I don't know all the names of the people that have flipped. A little help with this please? Thanks in advance.

Merging Hugh MacIntosh into the article[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
No other comments, close discussion merged information about MacIntosh into Colombo crime family's former member and associate section. --Vic49 (talk) 17:43, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is better information about MacIntosh in Colombo crime family#Former members and associates section. The information in that section covers MacIntosh's criminal life and is referenced. MacIntosh is also mentioned in the Colombo crime family#Gallo-Profaci War (1960-1964). The Hugh MacIntosh article contains unreferenced and incorrect facts; ex: the MacIntosh article says MacIntosh was Scottish I found no references to prove this; I did find references that he was from Irish heritage (see). --Vic49 (talk) 21:55, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Farese[edit]

In both references used in the article Farese is stated as the "Consigliere" not the "Acting Consigliere"; references New York Daily News read and New York Post read. Did any one find any other references proving or stating he is only the "Acting Consigliere"? --Vic49 (talk) 23:21, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar and spelling[edit]

You all have got to pay more attention to grammar and spelling. It's laughable at times.

Euphemism[edit]

@82.9.218.106:Why do you keep re-adding "passed away"? The Manual of Style states that euphemisms like "passed away" should not be preferred over simply "died". —LucasThoms 19:00, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What's the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk) 20:16, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@82.9.218.106: Euphemisms like that are not, and cannot be, neutral in tone. According to the Manual of Style page I've linked to 4 times now, there is almost no proper place for "passed away" in this encyclopedia. —LucasThoms 20:28, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@82.9.218.106: Since you have presented no argument for keeping the euphemisms in the article, I'm gonna go ahead and remove them.—LucasThoms 20:42, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Then you are suppressing freedom of speech.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk)
@82.9.218.106: I'm sorry, I don't understand how not using a euphemism is suppressing free speech. Can you please explain?—LucasThoms 20:46, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Both terms are the same - favouring one over the other is the wrong thing to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk) 20:51, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@82.9.218.106: The terms are not the same. The Manual of Style specifically says not to use "passed away." —LucasThoms 20:53, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This type of dictatorship will be dealt with by 2020. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk) 20:55, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@82.9.218.106: What does that even mean? —LucasThoms 20:57, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
For now, its means I'm deleting my contribution on the Colombo page and will not take part in editing on a site which suppresses freedom of language and thought. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk) 21:01, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting discussions[edit]

@82.9.218.106: On Wikipedia talk pages, we archive discussions, not delete them so that anyone in the future can come back and look at what we decided. Because of that guideline, please refrain from deleting the above discussion again. Okay? —LucasThoms 21:28, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@82.9.218.106:I'm sorry, are you implying that I'm Hitler?—LucasThoms 21:32, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Only the modern term 'Little Hitler', whereby someone with any perceived authority lets it go to their heads and start throwing themselves around.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk)
@82.9.218.106: I don't consider complying with accepted guidelines to be "throwing (myself) around" with "perceived authority". The rules are (for the most part) the rules.—LucasThoms 21:37, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you finally decided to shut it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.218.106 (talk) 18:51, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
