To merge Colonization of the Solar System into Space colonization to remove duplcation. Klbrain (talk) 18:15, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Content was copied from Space colonization to Colonization of the Solar System but it appears to have been a one-way merge. We need a clean fork to avoid duplication of content. Otherwise we need a merge and redirect from solar system to space. Jay 💬 14:32, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The text of Colonization of the Solar System seems to have come from Colonization of the outer Solar System and Colonization of the inner Solar System merged into a single article. It seems different from the text we have on Space colonization and quite a bit worse.
Since Space colonization has prosesize of only 50kb, and Colonization of the Solar System has a prosesize of 10kb (which will mostly be redundant anyway), I don't think there's a point to keeping both. Add the few relevant bits bits from Colonization of the Solar System to Space colonization, then redirect this page to there. DFlhb (talk) 13:30, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend to merge both in a completly new titled article since colonization is a very dated term outside of biology. Space settlement is much more appropriate for what the article is about since it does not deal in space governance, but "colonization" is mainly a political term when discussing humans. E.g.: there is a difference between "Elon Musk is settling Mars" VS "Elson Musk is colonizing Mars". A very important difference, because the latter means he would lay territorial claims. Nsae Comp (talk) 13:33, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree that it's a political term. The term "space colonization" is more used by scholars today, and far more used historically. Many of the scholars I've seen who use the term "settlement", also use "colonization" interchangeably with it; which indicates that the view that colonization is an inappropriate term seems fringe within the literature. I am not suggesting to drop the term colonization, since as you say the terms are used interchangeably, but sorry this discussion is about the merge. Well I am ok with merging if the solar system overview is nicely inserted at space colonization. Nsae Comp (talk) 18:52, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with DFlhb. Double sharp (talk) 02:21, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Colonization of the Solar System seems very out of date. For example there is no long term viable possiblity of humans colonizing venus for long term habitation. You seriously think we could build a structure to float in the clouds for a self sustaining population of say 1 million people and all that they need. What a waste of time. Next after Mars will be Titan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.211.108.94 (talk) 06:08, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We go by modern, reliable sources (e.g. Landis), according to which floating in the clouds of Venus is completely reasonable. Do not forget that breathable air is a lifting gas there, that the gravity on Venus is about nine-tenths that of Earth (so surely posing fewer problems than the one-third g on Mercury or Mars, or the one-sixth g on Luna), and that there is sufficient atmosphere to provide adequate radiation protection without building underground (as would be needed on Luna, Mars, or Mercury). In keeping with that, Space colonization equally well discusses the possibility. Thus this objection based on being "out of date" appears to be baseless.
