Orphaned references in Colorado State Rams football[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Colorado State Rams football's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

first season?[edit]

We have conflicting information from citations. CFDW states there were teams in 1890 and 1892/3.[1]

CSU states the first season was 1893, per 2018 Media Guide, pg 160

The difference should be reconciled if/when possible. CFDW occasionally runs with incomplete information, so I am leaning towards these being non-sanctioned teams/years (or mismatched era-names vs contemporary-names), but would like to see another source before any changes are made. UW Dawgs (talk) 01:34, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The 1890 page should be deleted, because there was no team that year. Both games listed on that 1890 page are from 1899. Colorado State's first season of football was 1893. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.121.43.40 (talk) 05:18, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

YYYY article names / common name[edit]

Right now the naming convention of our YYYY articles as seen in Category:Colorado State Rams football seasons is:

  • YYYY Colorado Agricultural football team (1890-1894)
  • YYYY Colorado Agricultural Aggies football team (1899-1934)
  • YYYY Colorado A&M Aggies football team (1935-1956)
  • YYYY Colorado State Rams football team (1957-present)

Which aligns with Colorado State University, ala

  • Colorado Agricultural College (1870–1935)
  • Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (1935–1957)
  • Colorado State University (1957–present)

While a contemporary document and not necessarily using the common name, the 2018 Media Guide, pg 160-168 gives:

  • Colorado Agricultural College CACs (1893–1894)
  • No team
  • CAC Aggies (1899–1934)
  • Colorado State Aggies (1935–1942)
  • No team/WW2
  • Colorado A&M Aggies/Rams (1945–1956)
  • Colorado State Aggies/Rams (1957–1958)
  • Colorado State Rams (1959–present)

Pending further confirmation, some YYYY articles may need to be renamed per common name. UW Dawgs (talk) 01:44, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • It is not clear what you are proposing. Can you state your proposal? Cbl62 (talk) 02:02, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • No proposal at this time, absent new information. Above is noting the current YYYY titles may not adhere to common name in some eras. UW Dawgs (talk) 02:09, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • OK. Let me know if/when you want to discuss further. Cbl62 (talk) 02:12, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • The preliminary data from newspapers.com supports the notion that some pages should be moved. I will update the chart as time permits. Here's what I have so far:

  • Here's a bit more data for later years:

9/54-12/54 2,631 6,196 10

Cbl62 (talk) 04:28, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Conclusions and proposal: Most years appear to be correctly named. However, the eight years from 1935 to 1942 should be renamed from "19xx Colorado A&M Aggies football team" to "19xx Colorado State Aggies football team". I propose moving those eight articles. Thoughts? Cbl62 (talk) 04:28, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • csurams.com[2] gives "CSU officially abolished the nickname Aggies in 1966." The YYYY articles currenlty flip from use of Aggies to Rams in 1956/57. The Media Guide (above) uses both names. So that might be another area for future investigation. I'm not actively editing this content, just adding my notes. UW Dawgs (talk) 19:03, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
