Relation to precommitment article[edit]

The concept of "commitment devices" is sufficiently distinct from the concept of "precommitment" to deserve its own page. Numerous sources indicate it is sufficiently notable for a page to be started. It is an important concept in the fields of economics, decision-making, and game theory. Therefore, I initiated an independent page for it. -- Maxz0r Rackham

Example of Han Xin[edit]

I know, it's an OR argument. Anyway: Commitment devices are all around defined by steering your own future decisions in favour to a prefered one.

When Han Xin positioned his soldiers at the riverbank, he steered the decision (not fleeing but fighting) for other people.

In this reading every prison sentence would be a commitment device, and so much more actions of limiting other's decisions in future. I guess that's not in the spirit of the inventor. --Hæggis (talk) 10:21, 7 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The same as Strotz' precommitment[edit]

There is an example given of Odysseus, whose symbolism was used first by Strotz, not Lewitt-Dubner. You should write that this technique was developed by Strotz ("Myopia and Inconsistency in Dynamic Utility Max", 1956). Pawel.jamiolkowski (talk) 04:35, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
