IPHONE Processor=[edit]

If you do google for IPhone processor, most sites claim 620Mhz processor. The Wikipedia article has it 400~ ... The source linked by Wikipedia doesn't say anything about the processor. Anyone has a definitive source? 65.26.88.58 (talk)


iphone has two processors - one for the phone/modem, and one for the osx/screen. This article really needs to be cleaned up though. ARM develops the core but does no manufacturing. The iphones are all made with broadcom chips. Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is not under the Network and Connectivity?[edit]

Nokia 5800XM is on the hardware and OS comparison tables but not on the Network and Connectivity. Can someone add the device on the table. KillerservTalk

Green color (best in column)[edit]

Who decided that the PowerVR SGX GPU was the best? That a 3.5" 960x640 screen is better than a 4" 800x480? And above all, that the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone out there? This is still your opinion, it does not belong to an encyclopedia. You could get a 1 inch 961x641 display and say the same thing : it has more pixels and it would be "sharper". Such a display would be a lot less usefull than a 4" 800x480. If you made a column only about resolution, and an other one about display size, I would understand. But the column is about the display. I suggest to omit the green colored rectangles. Leave them all the same colors. For example, it is highly debatable whether a faster CPU is better because using more energy. Also, I think that this article has no future because there are too many smartphones: there is no article comparisons of cars and there should be no one because there are too many and too diverse over a too long period of time. I understand that this article just survived AFD, so let us at least organize it e.g. per launch year. I can add nearly all List_of_Symbian_devices. Organizing by ram[edit]

So, wikipedia has this neat little button above each column in these comparisons (looks like an hour glass) that allows organizing by what you're interested in looking at. If you choose ram, the top one is 700+ ram, then the next ones are in the 60's, then 512, 300+ and so on. This is because 6 follows 7, not because 60 is closer to 700 than 500 is. Which is why Wikipedia has the {{nts}} and {{ntsh}} templates — to make numerical values sortable. I've just added them to the table for the clock speed (MHz), RAM and storage (MiB), size (cc), weight (g), display (diagonal pixels), and camera (megapickels). I had to reformat some entries e.g to always have the clock speed at the start. It took a while and I hope I didn't miss any. --Imroy (talk) 21:04, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Add screen height and width and explicitly indicate diagonal measurements[edit]

(Note: This section is essentially identical to one I added on Talk:iPhone.)

Historically, TV screen size was a single number reflecting the diameter of the round cathode ray tube. (Try a Google image search for: old round tv.) The actual diagonal screen size of the rectangular view was a bit smaller, but still meaningful, because all screens had the same aspect ratio of 4:3.

With the coming of wide-screen TVs, manufacturers continued to use a diagonal measurement -- because it impressed buyers. A 16:9 TV with the same screen area as a 4:3 TV had a greater diagonal size, so it seemed bigger to the casual buyer. And in many cases, manufacturers of LCD screens specified a diagonal measurement that was quite a bit bigger than the actual diagonal screen size, even though this makes no sense for LCD screens, again counting on buyers to not notice the discrepancy.

Manufacturers of computer monitors also liked the diagonal measurement for the same reasons. Go from a 4:3 screen to a 16:10 screen to a 16:9 screen, and for the same screen area, the diagonal measurement keeps getting bigger and buyers continue to get more impressed.

Something similar is now happening with smartphones, as screens get more elongated.

Let's provide more useful facts. While a diagonal screen measurement should still be included, more important than that are screen height, screen width, and screen area. These should be included.

The diagonal measurement should be clearly indicated as such.

Great work! Unfortunately, the page is still very wide, which makes it difficult to use on smaller screens. I suggest we use less columns and move the data around. Here's my suggestion, getting it down from 14 to 8: Model, Display, Size and Weight, Storage, Camera, OS, CPU, Other (Add UI to OS, move Keyboard to Other if not soft keyboard, move GPU to Display or Other, move Charger type to Other, move RAM to CPU, reordered things for ordinary users.) Network and connectivity table[edit]

Is kind of disorganized. The columns are in a random order, (alphabetically?) so for instance, the GPS reciever column is between two different data radio encoding techniques... Likewise, more phones have an FM radio than DVB-H, yet the former has a note and the later has a column. Should the page be removed??/[edit]

Should this page be removed as with the current rate of smartphone production it seems this is akin to keeping a comparison of every desktop computer ever made. Keep in mind this is a smartphone comparison page. While the page is unwieldy, rearranging it would be against the purpose this page tries to serve. We could limit what smartphones are on this list to flagship devices, or only to major players in the industry, but I don't think these solutions would change much, or be wise. Consistent Table Headers: Missing "Removable Storage"[edit]

2013 and older tables don't have a column for "Removable Storage" unlike the more recent tables. Some devices have an awkward note on microSD, but most seem to leave the lack of additional storage as implied absent even if the model definitely has a microSD card slot (e.g. the 2011 Motorola Droid RAZR and Bionic). 2602:306:BCF4:E180:B16B:4FE:E8BF:3D0A (talk) 21:30, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Headings different, on purpose or inconsistent?[edit]

Why are the headings of 2015, 2014, 2013 different? Is it done on purpose or is it by mistake? Why is there an Other category? Most of them list connectivity options, might be better to rename it?

Maybe the headings need reorganizing? Some ideas: listing the most important aspects first and/or listing related aspects (SOC, CPU, GPU, RAM) after each other?

Reasoning behind this: Biggest contributor to the user experience is the OS (Android, iOS, Windows or misc.) with may devices having multiple versions with different storage capacity (eg. Nexus 5X RAM type[edit]

Can we just merge some things?[edit]
