Article on compassionate use program needs to be amended; Irv Rosenfeld is still very much alive and smoking. (Above unsigned comment by 216.170.142.17.)

Also, compassionate use programs don't apply exclusively to marijuana. I believe it refers to any drug that is not legally obtainable (yet) that is offered to patients who have no other avenues for treatment. (Above unsigned comment by 141.213.52.142.)

Rename?[edit]

Should this aricle be renamed? The correct title of the program is "Compassionate Investigational New Drug study program" or "Compassionate IND". If no one comments in a few days, I'm going to move it. ♫ Bitch and Complain Sooner ♫ 02:14, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problems[edit]

I see that tags were removed from this article.[1] I would not have tagged it with those particular tags, but there are more significant issues here.

  • Huge swaths of uncited text; please cite it soon so the article doesn't have to be tagged.
  • Presumably some (most) of the individuals mentioned in this article are living persons, so WP:BLP applies. I will be going through the article next to remove uncited mentions of living persons. Please become familiar with out policy on living persons; MEDRS is only a guideline, but BLP is policy and a strictly enforced one. We don't write uncited or poorly cited text about living persons.

There are a lot of basic copyedit needs, but this one is incomprehensible:

I'm happy to address these issues ASAP, however you removed some of the most historically notable aspects of this program. Your deletion of the legal background and decision declaring cannabis as medicine and establishing the legal basis for medical cannabis in the U.S. appears to show an unfamiliarity with the topic. It looks like Wadems' sources were a Salon.com blog and something on AOL news (one not reliable, the other not likely to be found, so good luck). Anyway, that's good news; I'm glad you'll be working to source the article, and it's hard to understand why an uncited article with multiple mentions of living persons (BLP) stood for seven years and no one took the time to do it. I removed all the unsourced information about Irvin Rosenfeld, but I restored the content about Robert Randall. I had already removed the unsourced; you removed further sourced information about one individual, reverted some citations I had added and minor copyediting, removing some cn tags, and re-added information about a lawsuit, which discusses a living person.[2] That's BLP.
