Realignments detail[edit]

There have been multiple realignments on the line over time (see [1] for some of them):

  • 1952 Conemaugh Dam realignment (more info at [2])
  • 1907 realignment (current West Penn Trail) -- see ([3])

See [4] for info on realignments until 1903.

  • 1887 Hyde Park tunnel elimination & Leechburg realignment
  • 1883 Lower-grade connection to Pittsburgh Line from Blairsville to Bolivar (later at Conpitt Junction) instead of Blairsville Branch connection from Blairsville to Blairsville Intersection.
  • 1883 Saltsburg-Roaring Run realignment
  • 1883 Bow Tunnel-Social Hall realignment

It seems the line that was originally built (by the North Western Railroad) between Kiski Junction and Saltsburg was not intended to be a low-grade/water level bypass (see [5]). This seems to be the reasoning behind at least some of the realignments (Hyde Park tunnel, Pittsburgh Line connection, Saltsburg-Roaring Run realignment). --Hhm8 (talk) 17:59, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
