Requested move 14 May 2018[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Embassy of the United States, Jerusalem. Overwhelming majority of examples at Category:Diplomatic missions of the United States use this format, and the old one was at Embassy of the United States, Tel Aviv until that was moved recently. This seems uncontroversial so closing now without a full listing.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:35, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Striking close, as will revert back to long-term stable title. See below.  — Amakuru (talk) 20:01, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Embassy of the United States in JerusalemUnited States Embassy, Jerusalem – More official like the other embassies. A redirect page already exists so it cannot be moved without admin TheUSConservative (talk) 13:27, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Restore to old Consulate General Page[edit]

The Consulate General of the United States, Jerusalem still exists as a separate mission on argon street (as stated in the article). The Embassy only took over the one Consulate General buildings. There is currenly a strange situation of 2 separate diplomatic missions in the same city. There there need the be 2 pages. one for the Embassy and one for the Consulate General. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bens (talkcontribs) 14:29, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It should be moved back to Consulate General. No other country in the whole world recognises any institutions in this city as embassies. --Tataral (talk) 17:16, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Are you saying the US Embassy is not really the US Embassy? Sir Joseph (talk) 19:04, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You are right the article is should be renamed back to Consulate General, as this article is about the still existing Consulate General. The Tel Aviv embassy page should be renamed to the Jerusalem embassy as that is about the mission that got moved to Jerusalem, and now only excites as a branch office of the Jerusalem Embassy. You are however as the US and other countries recognise that the US embassy is in Jerusalem Bens (talk) 19:41, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done. It was not clear to me that there was still a consulate general in Jerusalem when I closed the move request above, so I have now reverted the bold move that was made to this article earlier. I also don't think it's appropriate to move the Tel Aviv embassy article, as the consulate general in Tel Aviv is I think the continuation of that one. Best to split out a new article for the new Jerusalem embassy.  — Amakuru (talk) 20:04, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no consulate general in Tel Aviv, it is a now branch office operating as part of the embassy mission in Jerusalem Bens (talk) 09:03, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Two photos[edit]

How about distinct photos of the two distinct buildings and a map? MaynardClark (talk) 16:50, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Split[edit]

There is still a Consulate General in Jerusalem that is not under the authority of the Ambassador and is responsible for relations with Gaza, West Bank and Jerusalem. Best to start a new entry for the Embassy rather than eliminate the entry for the Consulate which continues to operate. This is messed up the way it is now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:140:8500:3d99:2806:cfa9:f4ae:6586 (talkcontribs) 16:19, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Embassy is the same Embassy of the United States to Israel. Only the seat is changed from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The bulk of the activity is still conducted out of what is now a Branch office (formal name) in Tel Aviv. This is still purely symbolic pending construction of a new Embassy building in Jerusalem. Leave the Embassy article with a mention of the cut out head office in Jerusalem and restore the Consulate General article virtually unchanged. Note it is an autonomous office not under the Jerusalem Chief Of Mission authority. It has been there since 1844 Ottoman times before Israel was a country. This is a serious failure on Wikipedia's part especially given there was plenty of lead time to get this right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomholladay (talkcontribs) 20:20, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Merger into US Embassy[edit]

In the light of Mike Pompeo's recent announcement that the United States would be merging the Consulate General into the United States Embassy in Jerusalem, should we keep this page or merge it into the Embassy article? Personally, I am in favor of keeping this page. Wikipedia does have articles on former US Embassies. For example, the Embassy of the United States, Tehran and Embassy of the United States, Saigon. These articles would deal with historically significant topics. Just a disclaimer, I am not an American. I'm a naturalized New Zealander of Malaysian origins. I just wanted to sound this matter out with other Wikipedians, particularly Americans, Israelis, and Palestinians. Andykatib 04:37, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely keep. Even though it was announced that the consulate as a separate diplomatic mission will shortly cease to exist (by merger with Embassy of the United States, Jerusalem), there is place for an article about this significant body that existed and functioned over 174 years (1844-2018). Consulate-General closure[edit]

Now that the Consulate-General has formally ceased operating as of 4 March 2019, should we rename the article the Palestinian Affairs Unit or should we keep this article as a historical one like the Embassy of the United States, Tehran and create a separate Palestinian Affairs Unit article? Andykatib 06:49, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming the article into the Palestinian Affairs Unit?[edit]

According to what I can tell from the website of the US Embassy in Israel, what was the framer Consulate General of the United States in Jerusalem has been remade into the new Palestinian Affairs Unit. As such, I must ask, should this article be renamed as such? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JadeEditor (talkcontribs) 19:39, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing to see here[edit]

Is a photograph of the assassinated US Consulate General undue weight?
