confusing contact dermatitis?[edit]

Well i was looking around wiki to see what kind of allergy i have... for sure i have this one (checked with other medical websites). but it was only clear from "another" article that links to here, that explains what contact dermatitis clearly is. That article was Eczema and it lists the different kinds and so on. This article, Contact dermatitis, did not help me understand at all.

Suggesting rewrite of ICD, PCD & ACD sections to make flow better. Author has obviously referenced a lot of books which is great. would hate to mess up or unintentionally change the meaning through re-editing. Moving Contact Urticaria to Urticaria, as it is reasonably distinct from Contact dermatitis and the seperate article (Urticaria) is already established. I've linked to it here.

Would like to propose that this article include the sections/headings to make it more readable, etc:

I agree that this article is somewhat confusing to understand. It seems more like a medical textbook's description rather than that of an encyclopedia. The structure you suggests sounds good to me. I have been researching allergic contact dermatitis to the element nickel. I am a Graduate Gemologist and have clients asking me about "white gold" on an almost daily basis. "Wetwork"[edit]

What does this mean "People who do a lot of wetwork"? I looked this up and it seems to mean "someone who works in murders". How does that fit the context here?

Relief from contact dermatitis[edit]

To say antihistamines will relieve contact dermatitis is a bit of a misconception. contact dermatitis is a type IV hypersensitivity, antihistamines will only have an effect for type I hypersensitivities. Even so, antihistamines are the most common prescription for contact dermatitis.--KX36 (talk) 20:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Creating articles concerning types of contact dermatitis[edit]

I have compiled a list of types of contact dermatitis from Andrew's Diseases of the Skin and I would like to make each of these their own article OR integrate them into the contact dermatitis article. The reason being that while contact dermatitis may appear the same once it presents, depending on the cause, the treatment may be different. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Regardless, there needs to be a larger body of information on wikipedia regarding contact dermatitis if it is going to be complete... I think creating all these articles will result in a huge bunch of stubs one person can't create on his/her own. Just mention some of the categories in the main articles (e.g. chemicals, animals and plants, clothes, ...) and create fuller articles for the most notable ones (e.g. adhesive dermatitis, contact urticaria, ...) or whichever one you like personally. I don't think you should create a stub saying "tear gas dermatitis is a form of dermatitis caused by tear gas". --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 20:19, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that it necessarily follows that just because there are large text books on contact dermatitis there should be a long encyclopedia article on it (or especially not 40ish separate, low-information articles on various forms of it). I think the information in an encyclopedia is not proportional to the volume of information on that topic in the real world, but is more of an introduction or overview of the subject. I vote for one article (with maybe a list of the most important forms - not as many as listed here) - anyway, there's no way anyone is going to write a good length article on every one of these types! Whether or not there should be articles on each specific type of contact dermatitis I leave open to discussion. However, I have to disagree fundamentally with your quote "I think the information in an encyclopedia is not proportional to the volume of information on that topic in the real world, but is more of an introduction or overview of the subject." Simply look at the famous quote from Jimmy Wales for my rebuttal, "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. Merger proposal[edit]

I believe that this article can be merged into Contact dermatitis which is the main article discussing nickel allergies. The article is also written like an essay and lacks citations.
