AfD: "The result was No consensus to delete."[edit]

Left as a reference, to stop deletion attempts by the proposer, via disambiguation or otherwise! Jimthing (talk) 09:12, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removed. Do not transclude entire AFDs to talk pages just to make a point. I added the correct tag at the top. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 19:10, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion[edit]

The result of this discussion was no consensus to merge. (non-admin closure) Steel1943 (talk) 07:28, 21 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that we make a template to note completed discussions example (talk · contribs)

  • How about calling it discussion top and discussion bottom?

Last AFD closed as "no consensus" (no, that does not mean "keep", it means "nothing" really), bold merge REDIRECT reverted by creator of article. All the references either only make passing references to the feature, or are invalid sources (self-published/blog, primary).

It is already covered at the exact same extent in the main iOS 7 article, and despite claims to the contrary, has no notability that is independent of the OS itself and can be better covered in the main article because its a relatively minor addition. Apple always makes minor features look more important than they actually are, so this is giving undue weight to Apple's marketing (thus, non-neutral, ex how Start screen is counted as version of Start menu and not separate product)). ViperSnake151  Talk  19:20, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest opening an RFC to gain consensus. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 20:39, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The claim "already covered at the exact same extent in the main iOS 7 article" is simply not true. This article contains numerous citations for content such as how Control Center was received and other vital details. The section in the main iOS 7 article is just a bare bones description of the feature, and doesn't put it in context. A merge and redirect like this just a backdoor deletion discussion. Steven Walling • talk 20:42, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There was reception of Control Center in the iOS 7 article, but it was removed by an editor because it was allegedly "original research" (despite citing a source already used in the same review). But does it instantly lose context if there's a release log in between the content in question? In fact, the same "bare bones description" is used in this very article. ViperSnake151  Talk  21:38, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Sometimes we must learn to drop the stick. The iOS 7 article doesn't go into any detail about the Control Center, so in this case merging is just an euphemism for deletion. KonveyorBelt 22:07, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well this article doesn't, either. It uses the exact same words. ViperSnake151  Talk  23:07, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose ...again, as per previous AfD. "The iOS 7 article doesn't go into any detail about the Control Center, so in this case merging is just an euphemism for deletion." Agree, the function will be altered and likely expanded upon in future iOS versions, so best kept in detail on it's own page here. Viper: "Apple always makes minor features look more important than they actually are, so this is giving undue weight to Apple's marketing" — not really, just your own POV there. All marketing is some company saying something is important, so that doesn't really make any sense in your argument, as following that would mean removing anything that has been marketed to someone somewhere (goodbye to half of WP pages then, lol!). And the "Start" example Viper mentions is cherry-picking one thing to fit another, whilst ignoring other examples that are exactly the opposite. Jimthing (talk) 22:33, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • My logic is as flawed as when I suggested that iPhone 5c had to be merged into iPhone 5 because it is only the iPhone 5 with a plastic shell "branded" as a new model? ViperSnake151  Talk  01:00, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait a while Wikipedia will be around for a while. If this article is not improved after some time then its future can be reconsidered. Blue Rasberry (talk) 01:53, 15 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Merge but needs to be renamed/moved to Control Center (iOS) because OSX also includes a Control Center and it will be confusing. JOJ Hutton 16:45, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • What Control Center in OS X – there isn't one. Jimthing (talk) 00:36, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Control Center gives iOS users quick access to commonly used controls and apps. By swiping up from any screen–including the Lock screen–users can do such things as switch to Airplane mode, turn Wi-Fi on or off, adjust the display brightness and similar basic functions of the device. It also includes a new integrated flashlight function to operate the reverse camera's flash LED as a flashlight.

Other functions offered are the ability to turn on or off Bluetooth, and Do Not Disturb; lock the screen’s orientation; play, pause, or skip a song, and see what is playing; connect to AirPlay-enabled devices; and quickly access the clock, calculator, and camera apps. Users also have access to AirDrop, previously only available on Macs and newly added in iOS 7, as a method of transferring files between Apple devices.[1]

Big Sur move[edit]

With Control Center announced for Big Sur in the autumn, I'm thinking of moving this to Control Center (Apple) on Big Sur's release. Putting this here now to see what people think. Blythwood (talk) 17:42, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

2 years after, but i totally agree with this. The "(iOS)" doesn't make sense anymore. It is available on iOS, iPadOS and macOS. LDwaffle (talk) 20:36, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
