First comment[edit]

Purportedly?

Even then we kept track of where kings were killed, didn't we?

Photos[edit]

I have uploaded three photos showing the Corfe Castle-dominated gap in the Purbeck Hills but am not sure which one best illustrates the article (I used Image:Corfe Castle gap 2.JPG, but maybe 3 is better as it shows the length of the hills best)

Split into Corfe Village and Corfe Castle[edit]

This article really needs splitting into Corfe Village and Corfe Castle, I can't believe someone hasn't mentioned it already. The castle and the village are seperate entities, which should have been made obvious by the sheer amount of categories it's currently filling. MasterOfHisOwnDomain (talk) 17:05, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree, it's a bit confusing as it is.
One problem I can see though is both village and castle have the same name; we could have a Corfe Castle (village) and Corfe Castle (castle) page I suppose. What say you? Moonraker12 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:55, 7 June 2009 (UTC).[reply]
It's been a couple of months and there wasn't any other comment here, so I've been bold and done it; I trust that's all right with everyone. Moonraker12 (talk) 18:25, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dorset WikiProject assessment - proposed change[edit]

I propose changing the above WikiProject's 'importance' rating of this article from 'High' to 'Mid', the reason being that this article is only concerned with the village - the castle (which I agree is of high importance) has its own article. Misleading[edit]

Corfe Castle and Corfe Castle, Dorset. Most people from farther away know the castle and fewer know the settlement. This should be village. I mean, the castle is still in Dorset, not somewhere else. Official Name[edit]

Is the official name of the village Corfe or Corfe Castle? The website http://corfe-castle.co.uk always mentions "Corfe". --87.149.37.218 (talk) 08:32, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm familiar only with the "Corfe Castle" form. Toccata quarta (talk) 09:16, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 12 April 2014[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved with unanimous support. At the nominator's suggestion, Corfe Castle, Dorset will be redirected to the castle itself. Xoloz (talk) 01:41, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Corfe Castle, DorsetCorfe Castle (village) – Both the castle and village are called "Corfe Castle", and both are located in Dorset. Therefore "Corfe Castle, Dorset" is itself ambiguous and could equally apply to both of them. The term used for disambiguation should actually be unambiguous, and (village) does that.

The castle is at the base name as primary topic, and IMO that's correct. If moved Corfe Castle, Dorset should be redirected to either the castle or the dab. Nilfanion (talk) 22:10, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Support As per nominator. The current titling is confusing. I note however that the article has briefly been titled as per the proposal before, but was rapidly changed to the current situation - see these 2 changes. Not sure why that should have happened, or if it has any implications for this time round? PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 22:31, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom, Wikipedia's practice of using the comma form to distinctly distinguish communities from other locations using parentheses is very parochial, requiring knowledge of Wikipedia's internal notations (and at variance with local norms in other places in the world where paren forms are normal for communities), instead of being disambiguous, which is what page titles should be. I suggest the disambiguation page be made primary. --
  • Suppport Per wp:precise, avoid ambiguity with the castle. walk victor falk talk 15:22, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nominator's eloquent reasoning. --ELEKHHT 12:07, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
