Untitled[edit]

  • While writing this 'ru:Child in Time' stub for Russian Viki, I came across these lines by Ian Gillan, which I find quite extraordinary:
Through the medium of Radio Free Europe this song and many others reached the ears and hearts of like minded people behind the 'Iron Curtain' and as I found out many years later, it was of a great comfort to them when they understood that there were some peace loving friends out there somewhere. [1]

I've no doubt whatsoever that by 'Radio Free Europe' he did actually mean one person, Cornel Chiriak whose Metronom has had a cult following not only in Romania but in the southern regions of the USSR as well and indeed served as the only reliable source of new music for us. The article itself is good (and for me in many ways an eye-opener) but still I feel like something more has to be said about the historical meaning of the work of this charismatic figure who's had vast knowledge of music and the most fascinating way of presenting it. He was on par with John Peel as far as I am concerned and in some ways even more important. -- Evermore2 (talk) 08:48, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
