Differences in the musical[edit]

"Differences in the musical2 "l. Her character in the musical is often disliked because it portrays her as an ingenue who steals the boy from another, more deserving character (Éponine)."

I'm sorry, but where does that come from? Éponine's family still forces her into child labour etc. so why would she be "more deserving"?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.138.243.10 (talk) 13:52, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't ask me, I didn't put it there, but I think it is a fact that Éponine has a much larger fanbase especially among fans of the musical than Cosette. Still, I'm not quite sure if this is relevant in the article and if it might not be original research. 84.167.16.135 (talk) 15:39, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That statement sounds like origional research. Should it be deleted? 69.242.30.52 (talk) 01:30, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Since several month have passed an no one has seen fit to source that dubious statement I have removed it as POV. Mediatech492 (talk) 04:42, 3 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Cosette is her name. Wikipedia policy is to present a fictional character as fictional and not as if this person had a real biography. Valjean poses as Ultime Fauchelevant and says he is her grandfather, which tells us nothing about her last name. Isn't Hugo making a point by not giving her a family name? She is the prototypical orphan.

And calling her Euphrasie Fauchelevent just compounds the error. Hugo tells us about the name Euphrasie only to tell us that Cosette has another name no one uses. Cosette tells Marius her real name is Euphrasie just so he can say he prefers Cosette. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 19:24, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actually her real name is Euphrasie; and Cosette is merely a nickname her mother gave her. Mediatech492 (talk) 20:30, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

She's a fictional character. She has no real name. The author and everyone in the novel call her Cosette. Cosette has a "given" name, which is Euphrasie, which no one uses. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 22:29, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that she is a fictional character is irrelevant to the point I was making. Mediatech492 (talk) 22:50, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

But not to how we treat a fictional character on wikipedia. We talk about wikipedia and this entry here. It's not a chat room. "merely a nickname"? It's what Hugo calls her. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 23:07, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I merely made a statement of fact that is relevant to the article. There is no need for you to be confrontational about it. Discussion of facts relevant to the article is the purpose of this talk page. Please read the Wikipedia policies: WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL. Mediatech492 (talk) 18:01, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It will not surprise you that I think your advice is not needed. I've been neither confrontational nor uncivil. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 20:40, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

High resolution version of image[edit]

I've uploaded to Commons a high resolution version of the original drawing (but without the caption on the wall behind). I shan't try to use it in this article, since I don't normally edit here. However if existing editors do use it, perhaps you can let me know on my Talk page, so I can get if featured at Wikipedia:Featured Pictures. Thank you.
