Coyoacán is a partner city with Arlington County, Virginia, USA.

What does that mean ?

It actually should say it is a Sister City. I just made the change (+ link!) to make things clearer. See this link for confirmation. -- Rune Welsh ταλκ 23:15, August 23, 2005 (UTC)

South?[edit]

While Coyoacan is typically thought of as being in the south of the city, it is in fact geographically in the middle. The southern delegaciones were once mostly rural, but, in fact, if you look at the population you have over 1.5 million people living there. The rate of expansion of the city is tremendous and Coyoacan can no longer be considered as the south. If you don't want to include the Coyoacan neighborhood as part of the article, then really you might want to take out the parts of the Jardin Centenario, since this is really the heart of the Coyoacan neighborhood, not the delegacion. I think you're right about the centenario park thing. It would be more proper to make a new section in this article about the neighborhood to make the distinction. If the neighborhood section ever grows too large then it can be moved to its article. However about the south thing, I'd like to refer you to this map (3.2 MB pdf!) where the extent of the urban spread is shown. Judge for yourself and let me know, but I do think it shows that Coyoacan is more in the southern part of the city than at the center, even if relative to the DF only. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ | Esperanza 14:03, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I usually think of Tlalpan and Xochimilco as the south of the city, and these are fairly dense areas. True, Coyoacan is south of the densest part of the city, but it isn't the south per se. How about a sentence like this:
Although geographically located in the center of the city, Coyoacán for many years was considered to be in the southern end of Mexico City. As the southernmost boroughs of the city, especially Xochimilco and Tlalpan, have begun to grow, the view of Coyoacán as the south end of the city has begun to change.
As far as the Jardin Centenario, etc. is there a proper name for that neighborhood? I always thought of it as just Coyoacán, but maybe there is an initial name. Burleigh 15:08, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Your sentence is a bit misleading because Coyoacan is at the center of the Federal District but not of the city itself. The center of the city (even if not geographical) is in the Zocalo and you'll find a hard time to convince everybody else of the opposite or even hinting otherwise. I'd support your change if you change "center of the city" for "center of the Federal District" and "has begun to change" to "may change" unless you can cite a reputable source for this change of perception.
The proper name of the neighborhood is Colonia del Carmen but everyday speech it is equated with "Coyoacán" because the center of the borough is there. San Ángel is located in Álvaro Obregón-- Rune Welsh | ταλκ | Esperanza 15:44, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Órale, sounds fair enough. I figured out the San Angel bit, that's why I removed the comment. Burleigh 15:53, 16 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Museums?[edit]

The text says Coyoacán was home to Dolores del Río, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and also to Leon Trotsky (Лeв Трóцкий), and the houses they lived in are now both museums.

"Both" is confusing, as the sentence appears to refer to three units: two individuals and a married couple. I know Kahlo's childhood home, later shared by her and Rivera, is a museum. Is the other museum Trotsky's or del Rio's house? AmyinNoCal (talk) 10:03, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I dont remember writing that nor can I find it. Only Frida's and Trotsky's houses are museums. Del Rio's is still a private residence. Please fix. Thanks...Thelmadatter (talk) 00:55, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
never mind, I see this was written last April.Thelmadatter (talk) 00:56, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
